 What we need

The Social Media Associate will write copy and help produce daily content for KCRW’s social channels. You will be able to distill the most sociable ideas from news, podcasts, events, culture and the KCRW organization for our online community conversations. An understanding of the right tone and best practices for FB, Twitter and Instagram is crucial. An understanding of KCRW’s programming and audience is essential as is the ability to communicate KCRW’s online voice clearly.   

The Social Media Associate will also work closely with the Communications team and other departments. Ideally you’re also a KCRW fan, who loves great programming and is excited about the opportunity to boost the independent voice of culture in Southern California.

This is a full-time, non-exempt individual contributor position reporting to the Social Media Manager. This position is in the SAG-AFTRA Bargaining Unit.

This is a hybrid position and will spend 2-3 days per week in our Santa Monica office.

 Responsibilities

  • Write copy
  • Coordinate with 3rd party to schedule social media posts 
  • Maintain and drive tone of KCRW’s social media accounts
  • Engage with KCRW’s audience 
  • Coordinate with 3rd party to determine “what” is posted on social media in order maximize audience exposure
  • Understanding of and ability to utilize social media analytics to inform strategy 
  • Create and execute social media campaigns (paid and organic)
  • Designate responsibilities to Social Media Coordinator during campaign rollouts 
  • Attend Editors Meeting

 Skills & Experience

  • Curious, open-minded individual with an overall awareness and interest in music, arts, culture, and design, as well as human interest and news stories, 
  • Ability to research and write succinctly and accurately on a variety of topics ranging from music to news to culture
  • Great conversational copywriter with an understanding of the right mood for each channel’s audience, making sure KCRW is not just part of the conversation – but leading the conversation
  • You have a sense of fun with a dash of spontaneity, as well as know the difference between serious and boring
  • Timely and responsive, you efficiently bring the right content to the right audience
  • Basic understanding of social media analytics  
  • Experience with social publishing (i.e. Hubspot), creating content, basic photo and video editing and design skills
  • Experience with covering live events on social is a plus
  • You’re a great collaborator and communicator, but can also work independently
  • Love of everything social, including staying on top of trends, best practices and platform changes  

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Minimum 1 year+ of experience writing copy for FB, Twitter, Instagram content in culture-forward brand, agency or organization with strong social engagement 

 Compensation & Benefits:

  • Union minimum hourly rate $26.45/hr
