TIRE REPAIR TECHNICIAN

Detour Lake mine site is located approximately 185 kilometres northeast from the town of Cochrane, Ontario. It is a year-round open pit operation, with camp accommodations provided.

The Tire Repair Technician is responsible for performing onsite tire repair functions for OTR tires and adhering to Kal Tire’s work and safety standards. A key part of this role is establishing and maintaining a standard of service and quality in a manner that is consistent with the Kal Tire AIMS.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and requirements
  • Ensure that hygiene standards are maintained in the facility
  • Report hazards, unsafe work conditions and equipment to your Supervisor so the appropriate action is taken to eliminate or reduce the risk
  • Report all incidents and injuries according to procedures
  • Assist and co-operate with the site personnel to resolve any safety issues identified
  • Use and maintain Personal Protective Equipment at all times
  • Perform vehicle Pre-start checks according to procedures
  • Actively participate in regular meetings and inspections in order to promote and improve safety in the workplace and document accordingly
  • Read and confirm incident notices and other safety information conveyed to all personnel
  • Comply with site emergency evacuation procedures

 Inspection

  • Perform initial inspection of tires by identifying previous repairs, marking injuries, indicating type of repair required, identifying rejects and staging the tires for production
  • Perform final inspection of tires by assessing flow, cure and repairs, removing staples, buffing rough edges, painting and tagging
  • Complete all necessary documentation

 Repair

  • Perform buffing and skiving functions following manufacturers recommendations for the safe operation of power hand tools
  • Perform section and/or spot repair by following tag instructions and changing if necessary, buffing injury areas and inserting patches and/or rubber
  • Performs curing function by preparing tires and operating curing equipment according to established Kal Tire procedures

 WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 1 – 3 years’ experience working in a manufacturing facility or related operations

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Understands safe methods of work procedures and safety performance measures
  • Good communication skills and ability to express themselves in both local and foreign languages
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Ability to ensure the work gets done in a timely manner
  • Well motivated, with sound judgement
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems
  • Ability to learn new ways and ideas from learning materials, training and others
  • Repair skills – correct and safe use of repair tooling and equipment
  • Understand tire sizes and applications
  • Understand tire failure causes and analysis
  • Understand OTR Tire maintenance definitions (applications, psi, rotations, matching, removal, rims, etc.)
  • Understand Tire maintenance plans carried out safely to OTR standards for optimum performance

     EDUCATION

    • High School Diploma and post-secondary education plus a diploma in administrative management, operations or related field.

     NEGOTIABLE REQUIREMENTS

    • Previous experience fitting tires or mechanical service work
    • Some post-secondary in a mechanical trade
    • Kal Tire Operations experience
