Human Resources Advisor

Role Description
The Human Resources Advisor performs a range of human resources generalist duties. The duties consist of compensation, performance management, disability management and other HR programs. The Human Resources Advisor is expected to maximize the effectiveness of Kal Tire’s team members by providing coaching and guidance in the above areas to ensure profitable business operations.

Position can be remotely based, ideally in the Lower Mainland- British Columbia focused portfolio.

Responsibilities

Compensation

  • Research and prepare role profiles and assessment criteria for all positions.
  • Evaluate requests for job leveling job reclassification and promotions.
  • Ensure that corporate compensation and benefits policies adhere to local and federal standards and guidelines.
  • Support in collecting and analyzing survey data to benchmark the company’s position; recommend changes to salary and benefit structures as required.
  • Remain abreast of trends and developments in laws or regulations that apply to compensation and benefits.
  • Assist with design and implementation of compensation and benefits policies; evaluate and revise programs based on changes in policy direction and trend analysis.
  • Establish ongoing communication plan via materials such as plan summaries or descriptions, newsletters, home mailings, etc.
  • Participate in external compensation surveys.
  • Provide guidance to managers with compensation questions/concerns.
Disability Management
  • Manages Kal Tire’s long-term disability (LTD) claims management program.
  • Acts as the primary contact with our LTD provider. Liaises with our LTD provider, medical professionals, and related agencies regarding LTD claims management activities.
  • Works with all key stakeholders in all aspects of LTD disability management including graduated return to work programs and accommodations.
  • Correspond with team members, managers, human resources and payroll team members to ensure all documentation is received and processed.
  • Assist with writing policies and procedures and communication.
  • Develop and maintain a short-term absence management process for Kal Tire.
  • Perform a cost / benefit analysis to determine the most proactive strategy on difficult cases.
HRIS
  • Develop, maintain and support a variety of reports or queries using appropriate reporting tools. Assist in development of standard reports for ongoing customer needs. Help maintain data integrity in systems by running queries and analyzing data.
Change Management
  • Understand the significance of the changes within the business to provide information and recommendations regarding expected organization impacts.
  • Support and manage necessary communication activities related to the changes.
  • Support managers and team members in their successful adaptation to change.
HR Program Development
  • Research and analyze new program opportunities and provide recommendations.
  • Research, design, and propose recommendations to improve and support existing programs and new initiatives.
  • Support the implementation process for new programs.
Labor/Team Member Relations
  • Provide back up support to the HR Advisors when required.
Work Experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ human resources generalist/advisor experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of compensation principles and practices.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and provincial compensation legislation.
  • Demonstrated skill in coaching, counseling, and advising managers and team members on HR matters.
  • Understanding of development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and accommodate competing demands.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information with integrity and discretion.
  • Knowledge of current best practices in Human Resources administration, salary trends, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing or improving performance development processes
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and translate to meaningful action.
  • Knowledge of Provincial Labour Legislation, Employment Law and Human Rights Legislation.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Business specializing in Human Resources, or equivalent.
  • CPHR designation.
