Senior/ Principal Scientist, Translational Immunology

Overview:

Kaleido Biosciences is seeking a Senior/Principal Scientist, Translational Immunology to study the effects of its Microbiome Metabolic Therapies on the immune system across multiple indications, including infectious and inflammatory diseases, and cancer. The successful candidate will lead the design and execution of translational and biomarker studies to elucidate drug mechanism of action, providing scientific direction and support to both clinical and preclinical programs.

 

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive translational research efforts across multiple project teams in a highly matrixed organization
  • Work closely with cross-functional project teams to develop translational approaches and biomarker strategies, and to design and implement studies to generate data supporting INDs
  • Collaborate within Discovery Biology (In Vivo and Immunobiology Teams) to develop innovative preclinical animal or cell-based models that enable interrogation of MoA
  • Define and implement strategies for biomarker assays using patient samples to evaluate exploratory endpoints and inform future patient selection plans
  • Coordinate and oversee internal efforts and CROs to develop, qualify, and validate relevant assays, as well as to interpret/ analyze biomarker data to support development programs across the Kaleido pipeline, in partnership with colleagues in Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Bioanalytical, Biostats, and Bioinformatics.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in immunology (or related discipline with focus on immunology)
  • Postdoctoral and 7+ years relevant industry experience
  • Broad understanding of human immunobiology (innate & adaptive, mucosal & systemic)
  • Hands-on experience with cell-based assays, animal models of infection/ disease, and identification of biomarkers using a variety of techniques
  • Strong experimental background and experience in hypothesis-driven translational research with ability to execute well-designed translational plans in clinical trials
  • Familiarity with and/or interest in the impact of the gut microbiota on local and systemic immune responses
  • Excellent critical thinking and scientific acumen, with a demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and clearly communicate complex biomarker data and their impact to program and regulatory strategy
  • A strong team player, able to work in a fast-paced, matrixed environment and collaborate closely with colleagues in clinical operations, regulatory, bioinformatics, and research
