Solution Architect 

KAI Partners, Inc is currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Solutions Architect with cloud architecture experience for operations in the greater Sacramento area. 

Summary - Under the direction of our Division Director, the Solutions Architect (SA) will evaluate, plan, implement and continually improve the system-wide architecture strategy to enable the client to realize its strategic plan/vision. The SA will deliver solutions to meet the short-term and long-term business objectives and goals within the context of the client's operational environment that improves the market presence of their core business function


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Execute a deep-dive evaluation of the current state architecture within the Higher Ed portfolio and various state-funded grants/programs
  • Map information technology (IT) assets and business processes to EA governance principles, to drive an ongoing discussion about business strategy and how it can be expressed through IT  
  • Recommend policy and project adjustments to achieve strategic objectives  
  • Develop a blueprint to optimize the alignment of IT resources and assets to ultimately support the Student, Staff, and community college system  
  • Develop a full end-to-end enterprise architecture strategy to include business, infrastructure, information, and application architectures 
  • Define and document a unified Solution Architecture framework and standards for client adoption 
  • Develop enterprise-wide architecture best practices. Support and recommend the application of the architectural practices towards the organizational change management process, which may include the development of training materials, communications, and an implementation plan  
  • Draft high-level SA roadmap and budget to implement at scale 
  • Promote the alignment, standardization, reuse of existing IT assets, and the sharing of common methods for SA, agile software development, and quality assurance across the portfolio and ecosystem, to increase efficiency, responsiveness, and quality solution delivery  
  • Evaluate architecture toolsets and current and prospective technology, vendors  
  • Able to perform advisory roles in several state-level and CISOA-level committee meetings, able to drive and provide solution design and strategy.
  • Review Meetings to report progress, risks, and issues tied to the portfolio,
  • Develop and implement a continual improvement process for the SA program 
  • Evaluate standards adherence, and provide ongoing coaching to improve the performance of the SA discipline  
  • Other duties as assigned  

Required Technical Skills: 

  • Technically proficient in Enterprise level architecture concepts and able to write the architecture requirements for C-level leadership in a simplified language
  • Must have hands-on experience in creating end-end System diagrams, using standard tools like EA, Visio, Gartner, etc.
  • Proven record of delivering highly available products and services
  • Ability to multi-task with an appropriate sense of urgency 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service 
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices 
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment 
  • Ability to determine the incident scope and impact quickly and accurately 
  • Strong diagnostic and analytical skills 
  • Ability to implement Microsoft best practices  
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills 
  • Outstanding communication skills   

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:  

  • A high school diploma or GED required 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or other related degrees 
  • Five (5) years of experience performing Enterprise Architecture  
  • Three (3) years of experience leading/facilitating a team  
  • Five (5) years of experience working in information technology 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • EA certification 
  • IT certification(s) 
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification 
  • Higher Education experience 
  • Educational technology experience 

Physical Requirements:  

  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently, safely, and successfully with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
