The role

The role is within the Digital Studio in Sheffield responsible for building and supporting first class products for staff, prisoners and service users in Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service.

We’re looking for an individual with strong interpersonal skills who likes working in a delivery focused, agile environment with multidisciplinary teams. You also contribute to
our Agile Delivery community and share your skills and experiences with others across the MOJ, and across government.

You'll be an experienced delivery manager leading a multidisciplinary team, supporting and continuously improving products of significant scale and complexity.

You will

  • build and maintain motivated teams, making sure there is an iterative plan to work towards
  • protect the team and make sure the team collaborates, communicates and focuses on what is most important
  • coach team members and others, facilitate continuous improvement and apply the most appropriate agile and lean tools and techniques for their environment
  • proactively manage dependencies, overcome obstacles and get the best value against constraints
  • manage risks, budgets and people
  • be an active part of the broader delivery management community, receiving coaching and mentoring from your senior colleagues
  • take part in informal support networks with your peers

You'll have ability to:

  • identify and compare the best processes or delivery methods to use, to recognise when something does not work and encourages a mindset of experimentation. You can adapt and reflect, is resilient and has the ability to see outside of the process and are able to use a blended approach depending on the context, to measure and evaluate outcomes and help teams to manage and visualise outcomes.
  • listen to the needs of the technical and business stakeholders and interpret between them, manage stakeholders’ expectations, be flexible, proactive and reactive communication skills and able to facilitate difficult discussions within the team or with diverse senior stakeholders.
  • facilitate the delivery flow of a team, managing the pace and tempo. Able to actively address internal and external risks, issues and dependencies including where ownership exists outside the team.
  • identify and challenge organisational processes of increasing complexity and those processes that are unnecessarily complicated. Able to add value and can coach the organisation to inspect and adapt processes. Guides teams through the implementation of a new process.
  • Understand the environment and able to prioritise the most important or highest value tasks, use data to inform planning, manage complex internal and external dependencies,  provide delivery confidence.
  • remove blockers or impediments that affect the plan and is able to develop a plan for difficult situations and ensures teams plan appropriately for their own capacity.
  • bring people together to form a motivated team, empower delivery teams, help create the right environment for a team to work in.
  • recognise and deal with issues and facilitate the best team makeup depending on the situation.

Salary and working arrangements

If successful, the salary we offer you will be within the advertised range and will depend on the skills and experience you demonstrate at the interview.

Therefore in your cover letter it would be helpful to the hiring teams if you can indicate your salary expectations and if possible your notice period.
