Who we are looking for:

Are you the Independent Living Outreach Worker we have been looking for? In this position, you will be able to convey your passion for helping others with a dynamic team by bringing an energetic and positive approach while working with the individuals we serve!

Our Independent Living (IL) Program houses young individuals from 18-24 years old in small efficiency-type apartments or shared-living housing throughout the Metro, Boston, Central, Northeast and Southeast DCF regions. The Independent Living program provides 2-6 hours of in-person outreach services per week, as well as access to additional wrap-around services. Our program is designed to prepare youth too take full financial responsibility for themselves and our goal is to support them as they become successful, productive community members. 

This position requires travel in the Waltham, Worcester and Lowell areas. 

JRI provides training so that: 

  • YOU will be able to use your case management skills to help find housing for program participants. 
  • YOU will be able to accompany youth to appointments and support them in their goals. 
  • YOU will be able to be an effective role model while able to set limits and form appropriate relationships with clients.

Requirements and preferred skills: 

  • Experience with older at-risk youth and young adults (17-23 y.o.). 
  • BA/BS is required, with a preference for degrees in in social services or related fields. 
  • 30-40 hours per week with occasional nights and weekends ensuring all youth needs are met. 
  • Valid Driver’s license and daily use of your reliable automobile are required. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written formats. 
  • Acceptable computer skills and strong financial literacy skills are required. 
  • Knowledge of the state DMH and DCF systems is preferred.
