HEAD OF MERCHANDISING (MATERNITY COVER)  – HYBRID WORKING

The role of Head of Merchandising sits in our remarkable Merchandising team where you will be accountable for delivery of all Merchandising KPI’s for full function. You will effectively control your function with minimal guidance. Directly links in with and influences Ops Board providing rolling evaluation of seasonal progress, trading outcomes and effective management of all key KPI’s within remit as well as actively looking to improve business performance and set’s clear control parameters and goals for their team to operate within.

Day to day as a Head of Merchandising:

  • Formulates a seasonal financial plan for their departments which deliver sales & profit for the Business, focused on options, stock & spend control
  • Identifies areas of profitable growth for the Business and sets clear seasonal strategies for the teams to deliver on
  • Identifies unprofitable areas and products and develops strategies to improve or remove
  • Ensures all teams are using systems accurately and data integrity is high as the driver of key decisions surrounding stocks
  • Holds strong relationships with key suppliers to discuss holistic business levels and opportunities for improvements
  • Acts as key decision maker on behalf of Merchandising and Supply Chain Director where delegated to within critical path process
  • Accountable for Total business WSSI and regular reforecasting through the teams to identify and implement actionable solutions
  • Highlights key risks and solves problems actively, reducing business risk around stock through effective assessment of spend at all times
  • Accountable for determining spend allowance for the teams and ensuring teams are placing stock commitments in a well-controlled manner
  • Sign's off on high value spends, ensuring the right amount of best sellers and key new lines are bought with clear strategies to manage stock
  • Ensures stock levels remain within required ideal covers and that DC capacity remains within limits to reduce additional cost to the business
  • Drives effective trading actions through their teams and can change focus as required to ensure key opportunities and risks are supported.

What we need you to have:

  • High degree of experience within Merchandising, showing understanding of impact on Business
  • Shows a level of big picture thinking and ability to jump on opportunities to enhance the overall company position
  • Shows strength in leadership, able to articulate strategic vision and get teams on board to deliver
  • Can translate company objectives into concrete measures that are beneficial for the Business
  • Aligns people, processes and structures with strategic direction and organisational needs
  • Highly organised and formulates own plan to prioritise workload effectively, taking into account the impact on the Business
  • Excels in people management, communicating successes outwardly, champions personal development and tackles underperformance head on
  • Promotes company morale and acts as a role model - is clear about output expectations and ensure their team is positively engaged
  • Will act as a coach to more junior members of the team to support personal development
  • Can convince others in an honest, respectful and sensitive manner to achieve business objectives
  • Uses their connections to form broad business strategies and understanding of their potential benefit
  • Is intellectually agile in response to challenges of internal and external environments
  • Constantly seeks to improve and innovate ways of working for the wider good of the Business
