Assist the QA Supervisor to achieve Food Safety and Quality Assurance objectives.
Educate and train Sorter personnel on bovine anatomy, physiology, pathology and contamination.
Lead the Sorter team in being able to determine appropriate actions to be taken to ensure removal and disposal of unwholesome and unfit carcasses, parts or viscera to ensure they cannot be used for human food.
Lead the Sorter team in having an excellent understanding of when a carcass or part(s) display certain conditions/disease processes or have systemic involvement requiring USDA Public Health Veterinarian disposition.
Audits Sorter personnel on a period-by-period basis to ensure all procedures/decision making are in alignment with JBS’ food safety goals and guidelines. Provide immediate corrective actions/procedures as needed.
Conducts pre-operational inspection of area, sets up production equipment, and submits maintenance work orders as needed.
Maintains food and work safety regulations.
Audits product and employee safety throughout shift.
Conducts line meetings weekly or as circumstances dictate to address department issues or concerns.
Experience Required:
Basic understanding of Food Safety, Food Microbiology, Plant Sanitation, Process Control, and Quality Assurance. Good understanding of bovine anatomy, physiology and common pathologies.
Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs.
Excellent problem analysis skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Minimum of 2 years of working in packing industry or experience working on harvest floor.
Knowledge and experience of USDA online procedures and decision-making processes.
Prior USDA online inspection experience preferred but not required.
Skills/Abilities Required:
Strong Harvest floor knife skills
Strong understanding of Harvest Operations
Strong verbal and written communications skills and able to effectively communicate with Supervisors from multiple harvest departments (Q/A, Production, Safety) as well as in-plant USDA personnel
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Strong attention to detail
Demonstrate effective leadership skills
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships and work collaboratively
Problem solving abilities
Must be able to work in hot temperatures and extended hours (including some weekends)
Must be physically able to move around the harvest floor, maneuvering on and around uneven and slippery surfaces and tight spaces.
