We are building our team and looking for a Manufacturing Plant Controller based at our first production facility in North Denver, CO (Commerce City area) who will help us create the best plant-based protein company in the world.  Reporting to the Plant Manager, with a dotted line to the Business Unit Head of Finance and Accounting, this role will establish and lead the Finance and Accounting functions for the location.

Accountable for all financial aspects of the plant and ensuring compliance with company policies. The Controller will be instrumental in providing the leadership team with analytical analyses to enable decisions that directly impact business performance and outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Function as a key member of the plant leadership team by collaborating with other department leaders, attending leadership meetings and supporting the success of the entire operation
  • Assist management with monthly/quarterly/annual reporting package
  • Perform P&L explanation for key variances in Price, Mix, Volume and Cost drivers
  • Analyze current and past financial data and performance
  • Prepare reports and projections based on this analysis
  • Establish and evaluating profit plans
  • Identify trends in financial performance and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Provide financial models and forecasting
  • Maintain accounting procedures and documentation, internal finance systems and drive performance measurements from a financial view including monitoring key accounts
  • Provide the organization with appropriate financial and operating information
  • Collaborate with other department groups on problems involving financial reporting, controls and performance
  • Prepare annual budget in accordance with corporate process and manage the budget and monthly estimates
  • Work with Plant Manager and Procurement team to optimize inventory levels
  • Lead efforts to identify cost savings as well as tracking the actual performance of the initiatives  
  • Participate in continuous improvement teams to help drive improvement and positive change
  • Conduct plant audits to review inventory of fixed assets, finished product, work in process, raw materials, packaging and spare parts
  • Review/update and create standard cost for each SKU for finished goods or WIP
  • Ensure all plant personnel and supervisors are adequately trained in all required accounting procedures - audit and review as needed
  • Review the storeroom to ensure cycle counts are complete and inventory is accurate – assist in full physical inventory as needed
  • Approve procurement requisitions, ensuring the proper general ledger account and cost centers are being used, including classification of both plant and capital expenditures
  • Assist with Capital Expenditure requests in AFETS for routing approvals with proper supporting documents
  • Ensure all accounts payable and supplier inquiries are responded to in a timely fashion and effective corrective action occurs
  • Coordinate with Quality Control team to ensure all non-conforming material is properly placed and released from Quality Hold and dispositioned correctly
  • Perform month-end reconciliation and accounting close processes
  • Heavy focus on internal controls.  Identify financial risks and develop appropriate action plans.
  • Recruit, train and retain 1-2 direct reports

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education: BA or BS in Accounting
  • 5-7 years of experience in senior level finance or accounting position in a manufacturing setting, and solid understanding of standard cost accounting
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections 
  • MS Office proficiency required, including advanced Excel skills, SAP proficiency strongly preferred
  • Excellent professional communication - both written and verbal
  • Proven ability to collaborate and work well with cross functional teams
  • Previous experience leading a finance or accounting team

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Office and plant setting: the plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold (non-weather related), and working near moving mechanical parts
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area
  • Typical hours will be Monday-Friday with some weekends and evenings as needed
  • Travel is anticipated to be less than 10%

The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits:

  • Benefits: Vision, Medical, and Dental coverage begin after 60 days of employment
  • Paid Time Off: sick leave, vacation, and 6 company observed holidays
  • 401(k): company match begins after the first year of service and follows the company vesting schedule
  • Base salary range of $77,000-100,000
  • This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan, the amount of bonus varies and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program
