Refrigeration Supervisor (Maintenance)

 

 

Purpose and Scope/General Summary: This position will support a newly acquired plant by JBS in Ankeny, Iowa and will help develop and maintain PSM/RMP programs for ammonia refrigeration systems. This person will also help schedule and document maintenance activities through SAP, conduct internal audits of regulatory driven programs. They must maintain knowledge of current best practices, codes & standards, and current engineering practices and provide training for team members involved directly & indirectly with PSM. The Refrigeration Supervisor will lead/conduct the HAZMAT team, support the facility PSM team, and support Mechanical Integrity inspections. The will also develop and maintain critical spare parts inventory and coordinate with maintenance manager to develop and execute capital projects.

 

Responsibilities:

  • The position is accountable for maintaining the Process Safety Management program and the Risk Management Program of the facility.
  • The Refrigeration Supervisor is responsible for all maintenance functions necessary to ensure efficient plant operations: manufacturing, utility services, boilers, ammonia refrigeration, compressed air, electrical services, and building maintenance.
  • Additionally, the position will provide training programs to the refrigeration department staff, and perhaps others, on primarily maintenance issues including Mechanical integrity, and will also need to understand interpretations of construction and safety codes as related to operating an ammonia system in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Will also work with the safety department to help audit the contractor safety evaluations as required by 29CFR 1910.119.
  • Maintain a compliant PSM & RMP program at the facility within compliance standards.
  • Participate in ammonia system operations as necessary.
  • Develop, or assist in developing, organize, schedule and conduct training programs for the refrigeration system, HAZMAT Team, and confined space entry and rescue team.
  • Develop and review the SOP's for the refrigeration system, ensure that all P&ID's are up to date.
  • Review all PM's for mechanical Integrity compliance, ensure that all piping is labeled and valve numbers are in place and accurate.
  • Maintain all PSM documentation and training records that pertain to the PSM & RMP program.
  • Organize, schedule and conduct PSM meetings, compile and maintain PSM action item logs, assist in completing items on the action item log.
  • Inspect and maintain the Hazmat equipment in accordance with 29CFR 1910.119.
  • Set up training with the local fire departments, and the LEPC to include hazmat drills and tabletop exercises.
  • Participate in facility's Environmental Sustainability program
  • Supervise Refrigeration Techs.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5 years of refrigeration, maintenance or similar field required
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 1910.119 PSM Standard required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, Knowledge of SAP strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of basic Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with cross-functional teams at various locations.
  • Ability to work fractions, ratios and percentages.
  • Ability to solve problems effectively and efficiently through standard procedures.
  • Ability to withstand routine exposure to cold temperatures.
  • Must attend and pass NH3 Operator I.
  • Must attend and pass PSM/RMP for NH3 Refrigeration Systems.

The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits:

  • Benefits: Vision, Medical, and Dental coverage begin after 60 days of employment;
  • Paid Time Off: sick leave, vacation, and 6 company observed holidays;
  • 401(k): company match begins after the first year of service and follows the company vesting schedule;
  • Base salary range of $70,000-$85,000;
  • Incentive Pay: This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan, the amount of bonus varies and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program; and
