QA Food Safety Superintendent (Engineer)
Job Duties:
-Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the facility’s Food Safety Management System. Ensure all products comply with the HACCP plan
-Meet and exceed food safety and quality goals set forth by plant management by leveraging advanced engineering skillsets
-Ensure compliance with USDA regulations, HACCP, SSOPs, GMPs, and customer requirements. Communicate frequently with USDA inspectors.
-Coordinate the activities of the Food Safety and Quality Assurance team for the implementation of quality and food safety programs and procedures
-Conduct investigations of plant FSQA processes and suggest process improvement projects and tasks to be completed.
-Look for continuous improvement in operating processes and procedures and encourage ownership of all processes.
-Conduct microbial testing. Establish and maintain shelf-life requirements, finished product specifications, leaker testing, formulation weights, temperatures, and other necessary standards
- Minimize customer claims through engineering controls.
-Investigate food safety incidents, implement corrective actions, and verify effectiveness.
-Lead regulatory interactions with USDA personnel and external auditors
-Drive continuous improvement of microbiological performance, foreign material prevention and sanitation effectiveness
-Improve food safety by identifying hazards and problem shooting solutions
-Manage labor to a zero budget
-Partner with engineering and maintenance to design and install hygienic equipment that meets sanitary design principles.
-Review equipment specifications and layouts to ensure compliance with food safety and sanitary design requirements.
-Lead food safety input for capital projects, facility expansions, and equipment modifications
-Evaluate process flow to eliminate cross contamination risks and improve quality risks.
- Identify engineering controls that reduce pathogen, foreign material, and quality risks
-Lead validation of new processing technologies and equipment.
-Support preventative maintenance strategies that minimize food safety risks associated with equipment failure. Review preventative maintenance work orders for food safety impact
-Perform sanitary design evaluations using industry standards
-Validate preventative controls and intervention systems
-Assess water flow, drainage, air movement, and traffic patterns to minimize contamination. Provide technical guidance on drainage, product flow, zoning, ventilation, and clean ability
-Monitor key performance indicators related to food safety, quality, sanitation, and process capability
-Oversee the Beef Modernization program and supervise two supervisors and twenty-six QA personnel
The position of the QA Food Safety Superintendent (Engineer) for JBS Grand Island, Inc. requires, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in food science, food engineering, biotechnology, or a closely related engineering field.
