Fresh Technical Service Manager- Pilgrim's
Core Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the Fresh poultry technical services team for Pilgrim's which includes multiple fresh and portioning chicken focused technical services staff, working closely with fresh poultry plants, outside portioning, and prepared foods plants
  • Manage the development of new portioning solutions and improvements of current solutions to deliver on company objectives
  • Direct outside portioning suppliers in areas of product quality and yield
  • Lead fresh poultry technology research projects aimed at delivering improved product quality, yield, and cost savings
  • Work collaboratively and develop strong relationships with cross functional teams including; QA, plant operations, Engineering, R&D technologists, procurement, as well as Fresh BU leadership to solve key business issues and drive profitable growth
  • Coach the team on data driven decision making, including effective collection and monitoring of metrics used to assess, prioritize and select improvement projects
  • Work closely with R&D technologists and plant operations to ensure product specifications, quality, yield and throughput expectations are met post commercialization
  • Lead the fresh technical services team in investigating and troubleshooting quality and manufacturing issues to drive cost reductions, improve quality, consistency and food safety
  • Visit manufacturing locations and maintain regular communication with cross functional stakeholders
  • Gain a solid understanding of fresh manufacturing assets to help troubleshoot and bring new solutions related to through-put, yield and other product quality issues
  • Work closely with customer and sales team to understand product quality issues, develop effective solutions working cross-functionally with operations and communicate solutions back effectively to customers
  • Manage technical services resources to ensure appropriate allocation of time and effort to highest impact projects critical to the business
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current USDA, FDA, FNS regulations as they relate to the food processing industry Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's):
  • Results oriented, taking accountability for objectives, timelines and successful performance, to meet corporate objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop personnel via direct management experience
  • Proven success working well with cross functional peers, especially Marketing, Operations, QA and Regulatory.
  • Proven team leadership skills, including high-performance team-building, facilitation and consensus building
  • Solid problem solving skills, well versed in formal problem solving methods such as DMAIC, Six Sigma, Fact Based Decision Making, etc.
  • Skilled at speaking up regularly, with confidence and poise, assertively, tactfully and respectively, to influence and collaborate with cross functional peers, subordinates and executives


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor in Food Sciences, Technology, or Chemical Engineering, Master’s degree preferred
  • 10+ years’ progressive experience in R&D and technical services leading teams
  • Experience in poultry /protein highly preferred
