Planterra Foods is a fully funded plant-based protein start-up. It’s an investment by JBS USA, the second largest global food company and the world’s largest protein producer.

We are building our team and are seeking candidates for a Marketing Director, Innovation role based at our office in Lafayette, CO.

As our Marketing Director, you will join our small but mighty Marketing team to help build the best plant-based protein company in the world.  You will be responsible for leading the innovation strategy, developing the 3 year pipeline validation, sizing opportunities, assessing disruptive platforms, leading a cross-functional team through an innovation process for commercialization of new products and capabilities. This critical role will drive the long-term Innovation Plan for the company and drive alignment with the cross-functional leadership team to include financials, base and innovation growth assumptions required to unlock growth and essential business strategies.


  • Leads strategy to identify, validate and bring new breakthrough/disruptive platforms to market
  • Leads development of long-term idea generation to fill 3 year innovation pipeline in line with innovation strategies, new platforms, concept validation and sizing of opportunities
  • Leads and influence innovation to develop and launch short and long-term product launches
  • Leads commercialization process from concept inception to in-market launch, working closely Consumer Insights, R&D, Operations, Marketing, Finance and Sales functions ensure collaboration and alignment at development stages
  • Leads our long-term Innovation Plan process for the company
  • Partner with R&D and Operations teams to establish partnerships that expands our technical capabilities and capacity
  • Lead Innovation projects for Retail, Foodservice and Club Channels
  • Partner closely with Brand Marketing to ensure optimal commercialization and launch plans; align on brand stretch, equity fit and potential adjacent categories


  • Minimum of 10 years of CPG product and/or innovation experience; food experience valued
  • 3+ years in a start-up or small company strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field, MBA strongly preferred
  • Direct, recent experience with smartsheet or other project management tool
  • Knowledge of stage gate and product commercialization
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Ability to work cross functionally with multiple departments within the business
  • Analytically savvy, with a high degree of comfort in dealing with complex and/or ambiguous problems
  • Visionary leader with a strong track-record of delivering results and team-player, self-starter, open-mined, superb written and verbal communication skills, great interpersonal skills
  • Ability to influence and lead others, including those outside of the marketing team
  • Hands-on, entrepreneurial spirit, willing to work on all elements of new product development
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, uncertain environment
  • Ability to translate creative and innovative problem solving skills into strong business results
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to develop feasible and realistic deadlines
  • Ability to adapt and demonstrate flexibility as business priorities change

The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits:

  • Benefits: Vision, Medical, and Dental coverage begin after 60 days of employment
  • Paid Time Off: sick leave, vacation, and 6 company observed holidays
  • 401(k): company match begins after the first year of service and follows the company vesting schedule
  • Base salary range of $117,600 - $161,070
  • This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan, the amount of bonus varies and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program
