Maintenance Demolition Supervisor

Position Summary

The Maintenance Demolition Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the Maintenance Demolition Crew supporting the conversion of the former beef slaughter facility into a value-added manufacturing operation.

This position plans, coordinates, and supervises demolition, equipment removal, facility modifications, material handling, and general maintenance activities associated with the facility conversion. The Supervisor ensures work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards, project schedules, and applicable regulatory requirements.

The Supervisor works closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, Safety, contractors, and other departments to coordinate work activities and ensure the facility is properly prepared for new value-added production operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct the daily activities of the Maintenance Demolition Crew.
• Plan daily work assignments based on project priorities, timelines, manpower, and available resources.
• Coordinate the safe dismantling and removal of obsolete slaughter and processing equipment.
• Oversee demolition activities involving equipment, conveyors, platforms, piping, walls, fixtures, structures, and other designated items.
• Coordinate the removal, relocation, and disposal of equipment, scrap, debris, and other materials.
• Ensure demolition and maintenance activities are performed in accordance with approved work plans and safety procedures.
• Coordinate with Engineering and Maintenance regarding facility modifications and preparation for new equipment and production processes.
• Work with contractors and outside service providers to coordinate activities, access, work areas, and project schedules.
• Assist with determining appropriate manpower, tools, equipment, and materials required to complete assigned projects.
• Monitor work progress and communicate project status, delays, concerns, and resource needs to management.
• Ensure work areas remain organized and free of unnecessary debris and hazards.
• Conduct regular inspections of work areas to identify unsafe conditions and ensure corrective actions are taken.
• Ensure employees follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), hot work, confined space, fall protection, electrical safety, and other applicable safety requirements.
• Ensure employees receive appropriate training and understand required safety procedures before performing assigned work.
• Verify employees are properly using required PPE and equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, equipment removed, materials used, and project progress as required.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and safely accelerate project completion.
• Provide hands-on assistance with demolition, maintenance, mechanical, fabrication, or facility projects when needed.
• Support troubleshooting and problem-solving related to demolition and facility conversion activities.
• Coordinate work to minimize disruption to ongoing plant operations.
• Communicate effectively with plant leadership regarding project needs, risks, and completion timelines.
• Hold employees accountable for attendance, performance, safety, housekeeping, and adherence to company policies.
• Coach, train, and develop employees within the Maintenance Demolition Crew.
• Conduct or assist with employee performance evaluations and corrective action when appropriate.
• Perform other duties related to the facility conversion, maintenance, demolition, and construction activities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous supervisory or lead experience in industrial maintenance, construction, demolition, manufacturing, or a related field.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools.
• Experience dismantling industrial machinery or equipment preferred.
• Experience with construction, demolition, fabrication, welding, mechanical maintenance, or facility projects preferred.
• Knowledge of industrial safety practices and OSHA requirements.
• Working knowledge of Lockout/Tagout and other industrial safety procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret basic drawings, work plans, equipment information, and instructions.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and changing work requirements.
• Ability to effectively supervise employees and coordinate work with contractors and other departments.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding industrial environment.
• Must demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to stop work when unsafe conditions exist.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to regularly walk and work throughout an industrial manufacturing facility and active construction areas.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in various positions as required.
• Ability to climb ladders and work from elevated platforms when properly trained and equipped.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, materials, and equipment as required.
• Ability to work in areas that may be noisy, wet, dusty, cold, hot, or otherwise typical of an industrial construction environment.
• Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods.

Safety Responsibilities

The Maintenance Demolition Supervisor is responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe work environment for the crew.

• Ensure employees comply with all company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
• Conduct and/or participate in daily safety meetings and job hazard assessments.
• Ensure appropriate LOTO procedures are established and followed before equipment or utilities are dismantled.
• Verify employees are properly trained and authorized to perform assigned work.
• Ensure required permits and procedures are followed for hot work, confined spaces, elevated work, and other hazardous activities.
• Immediately address unsafe work practices and conditions.
• Report injuries, near misses, property damage, and other incidents in accordance with company procedures.
• Partner with the Safety Department to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.

Leadership Responsibilities

• Provide clear direction and expectations to the Maintenance Demolition Crew.
• Assign work based on employee skills, project requirements, and safety considerations.
• Monitor employee performance and productivity.
• Provide coaching and feedback to employees.
• Promote teamwork, accountability, and a safety-focused work environment.
• Recognize and address performance or behavioral issues appropriately.
• Ensure adequate communication between shifts and departments.

Work Environment

This position works primarily within an industrial food manufacturing facility undergoing significant demolition, renovation, and conversion into a value-added manufacturing operation.

The position will regularly work around construction activities, industrial equipment, machinery, tools, debris, dust, noise, wet conditions, temperature variations, and other potential workplace hazards.

The Supervisor must be comfortable working in an active construction and manufacturing environment and coordinating multiple work activities simultaneously.
