Benefits Specialist

 

 

Purpose and Scope/General Summary: JBS Shared Services is seeking a Benefits Specialist to support the administration and delivery of employee benefits programs.

 

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for managing employee benefit inquiries, disability and life insurance claim administration, enrollment and eligibility activities, benefits reporting, compliance-related documentation, vendor coordination, and issue resolution. This role requires strong customer service, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills to support a large and diverse employee population.

 

Responsibilities

Employee Support & Customer Service

  • Provide customer service support for JBS & Pilgrim’s employees, including responding to employee inquiries through email, phone, ticketing systems, and other communication channels.
  • Manage a high volume of employee inquiries while maintaining excellent customer service standards.
  • Research, investigate, and resolve complex benefits-related issues and escalations.
  • Educate employees regarding benefit plans, eligibility requirements, enrollment procedures, and available resources.
  • Document and track employee inquiries and resolutions within established case management systems.
  • Act as a liaison between employees, Human Resources, payroll, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators.

 

Benefits Administration

  • Administer employee health and welfare benefit programs and maintain accurate enrollment and eligibility records.
  • Support new hire, qualifying life event, annual enrollment, and benefit change processes as needed.
  • Utilize SAP and benefits administration platforms to monitor, audit, and resolve enrollment discrepancies.
  • Monitor and update administrator access and user permissions within Benefitssolver, TPA, and other benefits systems.
  • Process insurance card requests, reissues, and employee demographic updates.
  • Coordinate benefit transactions related to employee transfers, including international assignments.
  • Sort, distribute, and respond to benefits-related mail and documentation.
  • Perform benefits-related administrative tasks as needed.

 

Leave and Disability Administration

  • Administer and coordinate Short-Term Disability (STD) benefits, including payment processing and claim management.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees, managers, payroll, and vendors regarding disability and leave-related matters.
  • Monitor claim activity and ensure timely and accurate processing of payments and documentation.
  • Support employees throughout leave, disability, and return-to-work processes.
  • Run and process Return-to-Work reports and coordinate appropriate follow-up activities.

 

Claims Administration

  • Assist with the administration and coordination of life insurance claims.
  • Partner with employees, beneficiaries, carriers, and internal stakeholders to facilitate claim resolution.
  • Collect and review necessary documentation and maintain timely communication throughout the claims process.
  • Ensure claims are processed accurately and efficiently while providing ongoing support to affected employees and beneficiaries.

 

Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare, maintain, and distribute recurring benefits reports, including:
  • Return-to-Work reports
  • QMSCO termination reports
  • Accidental termination reports
  • Enrollment and eligibility reports
  • Disability and claims-related reports
  • Prepare and distribute employee benefit communications and documentation, including:
  • Medicare Verification Letters
  • Certificates of Creditable Coverage
  • State-specific Insurance Letters
  • Out-of-Network Forms
  • Maintain accurate records and support compliance with company policies and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Assist with audits, testing, data validation efforts, and reporting requests.

 

Vendor & Case Management

  • Responsible for TPA inquires and employee benefit escalations from initiation through resolution.
  • Coordinate issue resolution with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor service requests and ensure timely follow-up, communication, and resolution.
  • Maintain data integrity across benefits administration systems.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and elevate systemic issues when necessary.

 

Team Support & Development

  • Accept delegated responsibilities and ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks.
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of all aspects of health and welfare benefits administration.
  • Work collaboratively with team members while effectively managing independent assignments.
  • Participate in special projects, system implementations, testing efforts, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two or more years of experience in benefits administration, human resources, employee services, leave administration, or a related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Excel.
  • Positive attitude and professional demeanor.
  • Can perform the functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation

 

The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits:

  • Benefits: Vision, Medical, and Dental coverage begin after 60 days of employment;
  • Paid Time Off: sick leave, vacation, and 6 company observed holidays;
  • 401(k): company match begins after the first year of service and follows the company vesting schedule;
  • Base salary range of $24.00;

The posted salary range represents the Company’s good faith estimate of the compensation that the Company reasonably expects to pay for this role at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, qualifications, tenure, internal equity, market data, and may vary accordingly.
