DESCRIPTION: 
Supervise, evaluate, and direct personnel on shift in performing operations according to sound operating principles and company policies and procedures.  Ensure maximum safety, efficiency, and productivity of production workers, and proper training of employees.  Anticipate and determine causes of delays in shift operations and take appropriate actions to meet production schedules. Understand and verify grading standards are being met by maintaining working relationships with USDA AMS.
 
Apply company employee relations and union contract policies in all dealing with employees.  Monitor and confirm that machinery, equipment, and facilities are properly maintained and sanitized for efficient production.  Arrange to have appropriate production records prepared and maintained (i.e., payroll, labor reports).  Work closely with other production supervisors and management to promote efficiency and teamwork in each department within plant facility. 
RESPONSIBILITES:
  • Understand grading principles in regard to quality and yield grading
  • Communicate grading data to plant and corporate staff
  • Oversees efficiency of monitoring production and discussing daily goals with supervisors.
  • Responsible for efficient and effective operations of several areas of production in the cooler
  • Directs supervisors concerning production volume, quality, cost, and meeting production schedules.
  • Verify cattle sortations regarding cattle type, cattle program, quality program, and yield grade.
  • Help address any USDA regulatory issues.
  • Handles any employee grievance, dispute, or problem in the most efficient manner possible.
  • Working closely with Human Resources on policy and guidlines.
  • Actively participates in group meetings, line meetings, and supervisory meetings.
  • Work with the Quality Control department to ensure product quality & food safety.
  • Trains and develops supervisors to provide management depth and develop teamwork to attain department objectives.
  • Monitors and confirms the machinery, equipment, and facilities are properly maintained and sanitized.
  • Manage labor hours for responsible area
  • Ensure crewing meets area demands
  • Maintains good employee relations and adherence to labor contract provisions.
  • Daily communication with line personnel, in addition to plant management.
  • Contributes to the ongoing development of JBS policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as directed that correspond to the overall function of this position.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of USDA grading standards
  • Team oriented
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate effective leadership skills
  • Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Prior experience in a food production environment
  • Bilingual preferred but not mandatory
  • 2 years in a similar environment
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Frequent exposure to knives, extremely cold temperatures, and production machinery
  • Physical demands include great deals of walking around slick floors and loud noises
  • Typical work week of 50-55 hrs., M-F and occasional Saturdays
