JOB SUMMARY: 

  

The Safety Specialist will work with the facility Leadership team to create a positive safety environment.  Responsible for enforcing company safety work rules and policiesThe Safety Specialist will be required to achieve department and facility objectives, and must be able to direct, train, coach and council other team members in accordance with company policy and procedure. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: 

  

  1. Conducts safety inspection of employees and facility.
    1. Ensure employees are following all safety rules
    2. Check employees for proper PPE
    3. Evaluate facility for safety issues
    4. Able to communicate with others in a positive manner
    5. Able to cultivate a positive safety culture
    6. Supports team members by maintaining visible presence on the production floor.
  2. Maintains documents and records
    1. Safety inspection checklist for facility walks
    2. Creates an environment that express concern and consistency toward team members.
    3. Support daily, weekly and monthly safety inspections and audits
  3. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve a safe work environment
    1. Conduct department huddles to drive safety policies and rules.
    2. Open communication to discuss safety issues.
    3. Provides safety training for team members on company policies, rules, regulations and job specific duties and responsibilities.
  4. May assume other duties as assign.

  

  

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  

  • High School Diploma or equivalent certification
  • Minimum of one year of supervisory experience
  • Experience in food manufacturing safety policies and programs preferred
  • Completion of OSHA 10- hour training or equivalent
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English
  • Must be able to motivate a diverse workforce and lead by example.  Must be able to coach, train, and take corrective action, including discipline, when appropriate.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
  • Good math skills
  • Must be well-organized with good attention to detail
  • Display strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Adaptable and dependable with ability to follow direction and work cooperation with others
  • Must maintain a helpful and professional attitude and appearance
  • Ability to apply logic and understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved, instructions and to deal with problems involving a few different variables.

  


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  

ACTIVITIES: 

  

  

Manufacturing work on the plant floor, standing or sitting for long hours, bending, stooping, and lifting 

  

HEARING: 

  

Must be able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information, sometimes with loud background noise. 

  

REPETITIVE MOTION: 

  

Must be able to frequently and regularly use wrists, hands, and or fingers. 

  

VISUAL ABILITIES: 

  

Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents, products, or operate machinery. 

  

PHYSICAL STRENGTH: 

  

Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds throughout the day. 

  

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  

Must be able to work for long hours in a food processing environment, where it is wet, damp, and cold.  Temperatures are frequently below freezing, and employees are expected to remain in these conditions for most of their work days
