Maintenance Demolition Crew

Position Summary

The Maintenance Demolition Crew is responsible for supporting the conversion of the existing beef processing facility into a value-added manufacturing operation. This position performs a variety of demolition, equipment removal, facility modification, construction support, and general maintenance activities.

Crew members will work throughout the facility to safely remove obsolete processing equipment and infrastructure, prepare areas for new production operations, and assist maintenance and construction teams with facility improvements. Work may include dismantling equipment, removing conveyors and processing components, demolition of walls and structures, removal of piping and utilities, cleanup, material handling, and installation or modification of facility components.

The position requires individuals who are mechanically inclined, safety-conscious, dependable, and comfortable performing physically demanding work in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Safely dismantle and remove obsolete production and processing equipment associated with the former slaughter operation.
• Assist with demolition and removal of conveyors, platforms, rails, guards, fixtures, piping, supports, and other equipment or structures.
• Perform general demolition activities including removal of walls, flooring, ceilings, fixtures, and other designated structures as directed.
• Assist with the removal, relocation, and disposal of equipment and materials.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, cutting equipment, and other equipment appropriate for assigned tasks.
• Assist skilled maintenance personnel with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, welding, fabrication, and facility modification projects.
• Assist with preparing areas for installation of new value-added production equipment and infrastructure.
• Perform general building and facility repairs and modifications.
• Assist with installation of guards, barriers, doors, fixtures, piping, supports, and other facility components.
• Perform material handling, including moving equipment, tools, parts, debris, and construction materials.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas throughout demolition and construction activities.
• Properly segregate and dispose of scrap materials and debris in accordance with company procedures.
• Follow all lockout/tagout procedures and verify equipment and utilities are safely de-energized before performing work.
• Follow all required safety procedures, including requirements related to electrical hazards, confined spaces, fall protection, hot work, powered industrial equipment, and other applicable hazards.
• Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Inspect tools and equipment before use and report unsafe conditions or damaged equipment.
• Work closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, Safety, contractors, and other departments to complete conversion projects.
• Assist contractors and outside service providers as directed.
• Perform other maintenance, demolition, construction, and facility-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in industrial maintenance, construction, demolition, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to use common hand and power tools.
• Ability to read and follow basic instructions, safety procedures, and work plans.
• Ability to safely perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
• Ability to work from ladders, elevated platforms, and other approved work areas when required.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as required.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a crew.
• Reliable attendance and willingness to work flexible hours as required by project schedules.
• Prior experience with equipment dismantling, welding, fabrication, plumbing, electrical work, or industrial construction is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and move materials and tools throughout the facility.
• Ability to work in areas that may be noisy, wet, dusty, cold, hot, or otherwise typical of an industrial construction environment.
• Ability to work at heights when properly trained and equipped.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, protective footwear, and other equipment as required.

Safety Responsibilities

Safety is a primary responsibility of this position. Employees are expected to:

• Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Participate in required safety training.
• Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Identify and report hazards before beginning work.
• Properly use tools, equipment, and PPE.
• Immediately report injuries, near misses, unsafe conditions, and damaged equipment.
• Follow all applicable OSHA requirements and site-specific safety procedures.
• Stop work and notify supervision when an unsafe condition is identified.

Work Environment

This position works primarily within an industrial food manufacturing facility undergoing significant demolition, renovation, and conversion. Employees may be exposed to noise, dust, debris, temperature variations, wet conditions, machinery, construction activities, and other industrial hazards.

The employee must be able to work safely around active construction and maintenance activities and coordinate work with other employees, contractors, and facility personnel.

Reports to: Maintenance/Facilities Management or designated project supervisor.
