SHIPPING SUPERVISOR

JBS FOODS- SOUDERTON, PENNSYLVANIA

 

Primary working 1st shift, covering vacations for 2nd/3rd shift.

DESCRIPTION

Responsible for supervising processes and procedures in the receiving and shipping department.  Ensures that goods are verified against records of shipment.  Oversees the inspection of goods received.  Supervises the maintenance of records of damaged or defective items and discrepancies in quantities and weights.  Records time, date, quantity, source, and destination of materials received or shipped.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all team members in the receiving and inventory area, including freezer leadman
  • Verify all PALL/INTR/FLOOR locations are cleaned up
  • Ensure cycle counts are being completed
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies and hold team members accountable
  • Reporting such as Old Age report, trailer inventory within Shop Floor, freezer inventory transfers
  • Ensure BLAST locations get rotated properly and ensure the rework process
  • Supervises employees engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments and in preparing items for shipment.  Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.  Supervises employees who count and identify items in receiving and shipping department.
  • Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures.
  • Determines space requirements and position of shipment in boxcars and trucks.
  • Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications.  Seals loaded boxcars and truck doors.
  • Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.
  • Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.
  • Compiles records of unfilled orders.
  • Prepares bills of lading.
  • Provides supervision, training, scheduling, and guidance to shipping personnel.

  • Possess good organizational and coordinating abilities
  • Must be able to multi-task and place priorities in an orderly manner
  • Must possess good negotiation skills. This is necessary when it comes to dealing with truck companies and vendors
  • Must be an individual who pays keen attention to even the smallest of details
  • Must have good judgment and decision-making abilities
  • Must possess time management skills
  • Possess good conflict resolution skills
  • A concrete and verifiable knowledge of shipping and/or logistics procedures
  • Educational background is considered an asset.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 3 years of DIRECTLY RELATED experience. Consideration will be given to candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to work in very cold, damp, loud environments with slick floors
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including some overtime and weekends
