Job Title:  Animal Caretaker I
Reporting to: Farm Manager
Department/Location of Position: Windsor MO
This position is responsible for assisting the farm meet production goals while promoting safety and well-being of self and other team members. Adheres at all times to Animal Welfare and Bio-Security protocols, guidelines, and procedures at all times.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Basic sow/gilt handling: feeding/watering/moving
  • Operating machinery and equipment
  • Assisting with farrowing (birth)
  • Assist with breeding (artificial insemination)
  • Handling and using chemicals
  • Vaccinating and medicating sows and piglets
  • Cleaning, afterbirth, dead pigs, scraping
  • Ability to use computer equipment: hand held devices and electronic wands 
  • Work with Data Tech on getting info to them, Daily info, Corrections
  • Treatment cards
  • Recording on information on cards
  • Ear tagging
  • Safety meetings
  • Animal welfare adherence
  • Power washing
  • Scraping feeders
  • Check feed system and fill lines
  • Maintenance reported to management
  • Stun gun use and maintenance
  • Housekeeping duties
  • Any other tasks asked by Assistant or Manager
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Available to work every other weekend
  • Must be able to read/comprehend English and authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Good math skills.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to bend, push and pull, and lift 60 lbs.
  • Walk 90% of the day.
  • Have reliable transportation to and from work
  • Computer knowledge.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • Familiarity with Bio-Security and Power washing
  • Familiarity or experience with swine production
