Position title:                      Plant Maintenance  Engineer

Position summary:          Ownership for performance of manufacturing processes

Significant duties and responsibilities:

  • General Responsibilities for Process Engineers
  • Overall ownership for the performance of manufacturing processes in area of responsibility
  • Ensure that the equipment in the plant is capable of making product to specification at the rate to meet the production schedule
  • Develop/ maintain standard work, standard operating procedures and programs for area of responsibility
  • Lead process to define proactive maintenance requirements
  • Support daily operational troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Drive continuous improvement in area of responsibility, leading front line data collection and analysis activities and designing new production processes as necessary
  • Work with Plant manager, Maintenance manager, Production manager and Production Supervisors to define desired future state and establish improvement priorities
  • Ownership for transferring new products to manufacturing in area of responsibility
  • Provide input on manufacturability in the new product development process
  • Act as a representative and supporter of the company to those under supervision
  • Provide feedback/coaching to associates on how to improve performance and increase skills/responsibility
  • Provide/oversee training to associates
  • Ensure a safe working environment for associates

Job Requirements/Qualifications:  

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, engineering preferred
  • >5 years engineering experience
  • Cross-functional experience (operations, maintenance, materials, quality, etc)
  • Has demonstrated ability to implement and maintain manufacturing process improvements and controls Non-technical skills:
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Initiative and objectivity – willing to drive change
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Understanding of the need for process discipline Technical skills:
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Works well in a team setting - good listening skills, able to build rapport
  • Open to new ideas and experimentation
  • Practical, with a bias for action
  • Enjoys spending time on the shop floor (as opposed to office)
  • Strong customer service orientation towards production, passion for driving service levels, productivity and quality
  • Detailed understanding of world class manufacturing processes
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance requirements for production equipment
  • Understanding of PLCs/automated production equipment)
  • Understanding of operation and sanitation of production equipment
  • Understanding of key regulatory requirements impacting plant and equipment (OSHA, FDA, …)
  • Understand Lean principles, and know what “good” looks like in plant operations
