Job Summary:
 
The Packaging Tech plays a key role in ensuring the quality, consistency, and success of packaging materials across all Jackson Family Wines (JFW) brands. With a passion for quality and continuous improvement, this role champions both operational excellence and innovation while supporting JFW’s commitment to sustainability and exceptional customer experiences.
 
Working both independently and collaboratively, the Packaging Tech is a trusted partner to production, quality, procurement, and creative teams. As a key member of the Packaging Team, the Packaging Tech will oversee packaging quality processes, including but not limited to: incoming material inspections, documentation and maintenance of packaging specifications and standards, bill of materials (BOM) setup, data management, and verification of label compliance for Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) approval.   
Desired Schedule: 6 AM - 2:30 PM, Monday - Friday
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Lead and implement continuous improvement initiatives impacting process and material quality within the bottling center.
  • Conduct incoming packaging material audits to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Proactively participates in workflows related to approving and testing new packaging.
  • Support production trials within the bottling plant and estates.
  • Create and manage compatibility testing submission process; responsible for submitting correct components for testing and documenting results.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for production-related quality issues, using critical thinking and teamwork to assess and respond effectively. Instrumental in JFW’s Corrective Action system. 
  • Create and maintain packaging material specifications (including)
    • Technical drawings and die lines
    • Artwork and Color Standards
    • Packaging Bill of Materials
    • Packaging Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and (Acceptable Quality Limits) AQL’s- defined by Packaging Engineer/Procurement
    • Testing Procedures – created and regulated by Packaging Engineer
  • Participate in Food Safety/HACCP Team.
  • Data Management for Finished Goods and Packaging in Specright and/or JDE.
Areas of Specialization:
  • Passion for quality, continuous improvement and data-driven problem solving. 
  • Knowledge of packaging materials used food and beverage industry, with focus on bottling.
  • Familiarity with TTB Regulations and wine industry compliance requirements.
Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Food Science, Enology, or comparable education with 3-5 years of relevant work experience
  • Previous high-speed production experience preferred
  • Strong Experience using JDE ERP System and comfortable working across data platforms like Specright, SharePoint, and Workfront.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization skills; previous Quality experience a plus 
  • Experience organizing and maintaining large volumes of data and information
  • Strong Microsoft Office Skills 
  • Strong collaborator who enjoys both teamwork and independent ownership of projects. 
  • Have the desire to be in a leadership role in the future 
Physical Demands:
  • While performing routine job duties, the candidate may be required to stand for extended periods, stoop, bend, walk, use hands to handle objects, reach with hands and arms, and move or lift objects up to 45 lbs.
WAGE TRANSPARENCY: 
The base pay for this role ranges from $30.00-36.00 per hour. Compensation will be determined by candidate experience, skills, and location.
