Position: Enologist (Temporary)
Winery & Team: Our state-of-the-art Jackson Family Wines McMinnville Winery is in the heart of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. We are a mid-sized winery specializing in the production of premium Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and sparkling wine from premier estate vineyards for brands including La Crema, Siduri, as well as other Jackson Family Wines brands and select custom crush clients. Our winery team is small and tight-knit, with a passion for wine and a keen interest in learning. Position Summary: Under the general direction of the Associate Winemaker, this position will provide technical and supervisory support to the multi-brand winemaking team. This lab-focused, supervisory role involves all aspects of the winemaking process and will be a key role player in our winemaking team for the duration of the year. The Enologist will coordinate with Cellar and Lab operations, and supporting Winemaking operations at JFW- McMinnville and occasionally provide analytical support to custom crush client and teams from other JFW wineries or brands.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
  • Coordinate and conduct all sampling and lab analysis for JFW- McMinnville Winery
  • Primary and malolactic fermentation monitoring
  • Calculate and prepare bench trials
  • Troubleshoot lab equipment
  • Data entry of lab analysis results
  • Occasionally participate in sensory analysis, when applicable
  • Follow quality control and standard operating lab procedures
  • Processing and bottling oversight
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate inventory of lab consumables, assays, etc.
  • Coordinate with Winemaking to generate/enter work orders during harvest
  • Other duties as assigned

Wage transparency:
The base pay for this role ranges from $57,293.00 - $75,000.00
Background and Experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Enology, Fermentation Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related field. 1+ full  year or multiple harvests in laboratory/wine production required. Supervisory experience and knowledge of current viticulture/enology research and literature preferred. The qualified candidate will be well-organized, detail-oriented, and possess strong analytical skills. The capacity to work independently and with others at all levels of the organization is required. Intermediate to advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite are required. The willingness to work extended hours and various shifts is expected, particularly during harvest. The position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time, occasionally reach with hands and arms, occasionally sit, walk, climb, stoop, or kneel, as well as be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
