Position at IGN

IGN’s Hardware Reviews and Roundups Editor is responsible for writing, updating, and maintaining IGN’s growing list of Evergreen Best of Tech content, as well as reviewing new gaming tech and hardware. This involves daily CMS data entry, copy editing and managing freelancers, maintaining an editorial calendar, and a variety of other editorial tasks as part of the IGN Tech and Commerce Content team.


Requirements & Expectations

This is an entry to mid-level full time Editorial role. Candidates should be able to independently research, produce, publish, and update Best Of content with minimal intervention from their supervisor.


        A minimum of 3-5 years in hardware and technology freelance (or on staff) journalism.

        Specific experience as a tech reviewer or critic.

        A strong mind for detail, process, and sorting through competing priorities.

        Experience with productivity and collaboration tools like Trello, Slack or equivalents.

        Experience with SEO-optimized writing.

        Experience with ecommerce-related content is a very strong plus, but is not required.

        Experience on camera (podcasts, unboxings, voiceover work, etc) is also a plus, but is not required.

        Wide ranging experience or interest in numerous tech categories (TVs, PC hardware, consumer hardware, phones, etc).


Job Duties

The Hardware Reviews and Roundups Editor is responsible for:


        Continually updating and refreshing a growing list of Best Of Tech roundups to ensure all editorial context and product recommendations are still up-to-date, and accurately reflect IGN’s Editorial opinion and/or the broader sentiment from around the web.

        Producing new Best Of Tech articles, prioritized from trending topics, in-house reviews,  and SEO-minded data sources.

        Copy editing, building, and assigning work to freelancers.

        Submitting requests for artwork, social and homepage promotion, and any other collateral needed to ensure production and promotion of Tech features runs smoothly.

        Devising and maintaining a calendar of planned article promotions and re-promotions.

        Occasionally personally reviewing gaming gear.

        Traveling to and covering key Tech and Hardware events including CES and E3.

        Reviewing pageview data and other data sources to continually refine and improve article angles, headlines, promotion, and on-page optimization.

        Occasional opportunity to fill in on traditional IGN Editorial coverage (News, Reviews, Previews, Features) and event coverage (PAX, Comic-Con, E3) on an ad-hoc basis.
