Mashable is hiring an energetic and experienced social media maven to join our team. The ideal candidate will be extremely plugged into online life, with a natural enthusiasm for social media and the internet in general. Do you live-tweet awards shows? Excellent. Do you watch Apple events for fun? Amazing. Are you online so much you forget the real world exists? Wonderful! 

The role requires someone who can take the Mashable voice and deliver it to our millions of users across our social platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Instagram, LinkedIn, Tik Tok, Snapchat). We want someone who understands that social media isn’t just about pushing links, but connecting with an audience of actual humans. 

The social media editor will be responsible for shaping the Mashable voice on social media, identifying opportunities to increase engagement, creating original content, and tracking growth on each platform. They should be confident communicating with audiences in a manner that reflects Mashable’s voice and editorial standards. Flexibility and a willingness to take on new opportunities is a must. The role is best suited for a natural self-starter with strong social media skills, a keen attention to detail, and a lively voice.

  • Post and schedule links and videos across all of our distributed platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
  • Create compelling and engaging content for Mashable’s Instagram feed and Stories to drive traffic and garner engagements. Repurpose this content across other social platforms.
  • Create Mashable-friendly memes for our social channels to promote our brand and entice click-throughs when applicable.
  • Write, edit, and publish Twitter threads and Twitter Moments 
  • Optimize video and link content on our social platforms by writing social-friendly copy and creating or changing thumbnails and headlines when necessary.
  • Maintain content calendars and adhere to schedules and deadlines.
  • Check Mashable mentions on Twitter and Instagram regularly and reply when appropriate. 
  • Identify opportunities for Mashable to be a part of trending conversations on Twitter. 
  • Cover live events (Apple events, awards shows) on Twitter and Instagram.
  • Pull analytics for weekly and monthly PC Mag and Mashable meetings as well as for any other one off projects where it may be requested.
  • Assist PCMag in social video distribution when needed.
  • Send Mashable pitches to our publishing partners.
  • Review and curate content that is in the True Anthem queue.
  • Keep tabs on the editorial calendar to identify opportunities to work with editorial to create social packaging around tentpoles, content initiatives, and special features.
  • Work with editorial, video, and art teams on social distribution. 
  • Communicate and collaborate across multiple teams and brands to generate new ideas and  identify opportunities for coordinated coverage.
  • Pitch ideas for all distributed and social media platforms across Mashable and other Ziff Media Group brands
  • Adapt Ziff Media Group onsite content for social platforms.
  • Other duties as determined by team managers or editorial executive management.


  • 1-3 years experience creating social media for a digital brand
  • Editorial experience is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to take initiative
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing sensitive topic areas
  • Understanding general style guide rules and editorial standards
  • A strong work ethic with a self-starter mentality
  • Deep knowledge of the digital space and Mashable's coverage areas
  • Active, personal presence on social media
  • Familiarity with Google Sheets, Social Flow, Google Analytics, Crowdtangle, and other social distribution tools 
  • Ability to occasionally work off-hours and weekends to cover events
This is a remote/office based position which may be performed anywhere in the United States except for within the state of Colorado.
