VIPRE Security, a division of j2 Global, develops CyberSecurity Products focused on Endpoint and Email security.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Provide architectural direction for major new software initiatives such as web sites, web services, billing, and data portals.
  • Consult on architectural approach with product and development team and evaluate and recommend new technologies as appropriate.
  • Negotiates requirements to design for satisfying standards including but not limited to systems, network, storage, database, application software stack, monitoring.
  • Understanding of SaaS / cloud technologies, preferably AWS.
  • Effectively influences cross functional teams to ensure levels of quality and timelines are met during the service improvement and delivery process.
  • Works on projects and new initiatives to propose and design, configure, implement and involve in strategic system solutions to address complex technical and business requirements.
  • Has the flexibility to apply knowledge and experience to recommend custom solutions to business problems. Decisions can have enterprise wide impact. Exercises discretion and judgment to ensure all Operational Service Levels are met.
  • Coach and mentor senior engineers and team leads
  • Focus on cross-team improvement using your experience with areas such as abstraction, observability and scalability, high availability, high throughput shared cloud infrastructure.
  • Lead and improve the build & deploy lifecycle, increase reliability of deployments, create service blueprints and examples to enable teams to standardize deployments.
  • Lead a continuous improvement of our test automation across all teams.
  • Continue the transformation to a modern scalable service based system.
  • Drive efficiency of scale while identifying and solving problems so that our systems can support 10+ times current capacity.
  • Keep up on industry changes in the email security space, suggest how we keep our systems and services current and secure.
  • Develop mainly in Go, along with providing guidance to teams working in other languages.


Experience Required:


  • Proven leadership skills including: mentoring, coaching, and collaboration; must be able to inspire and mentor junior and senior developers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline is a minimum. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in commercial software development.
  • Minimum of 5 years of architecture experience.
  • 5 years or experience in developing APIs.
  • Thorough knowledge of Agile development practices.
  • Understanding of international requirements and limitations.
  • Knowledge of Cloud based and SaaS based application delivery models.
  • Thorough understanding of current major development technologies (MySQL, JAVA, C/C++, Golang, etc.)

Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  •  Experienced delivering and supporting technology within a devops culture, CI/CD solutions, automation and configuration management.
  • Have a proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale services on private and hybrid clouds using AWS.
  • Passionate about observability at every level, believe in the pillars of logging, metrics and tracing.
  • Dedicated to providing high resilience, high uptime services and code.
  • Solid with Infrastructure as code tools and config management tools.
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to clearly communicate changes, requirements, and future direction.
  • Dedicated to understanding distributed system design using a micro service architecture. Aware of the trade offs and additional requirements involved in building and troubleshooting these architectures.
  • Comfortable with regulatory requirements such as: SSAE 16, GDPR, HIPAA, PCI and how these affect the engineering teams.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills.
