The Opportunity

Everyday Health Group Pro is is looking for a Software Engineer (PHP) to join our Professional team (MedPage Today).  MedPage Today is one of the leading online providers of real-time breaking medical news for healthcare professionals and consumers.  As part of our tight-knit team, you’ll contribute to numerous high-profile projects of strategic importance to the business and will share your knowledge of best practices, strategies, and techniques. We work together to create a website experience that helps our audience live healthier lives every day.

The candidate must have a passion for software development, solutions architecture and application performance to join the technology team.  In this role you will build enterprise-level applications and services while working closely with various product teams using agile methodologies.  You must have strong analytical and technical skills using PHP and MYSQL in order to be successful in this role.

You must also have the ability to communicate complex concepts in a concise manner to both technical and non-technical staff. You are a developer who enjoys designing software that performs and scales well, and you’re looking to join a rapidly growing team with an emphasis on creating exciting products.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will collaborate with a team of developers to design, develop, unit test, and support new features
  • Propose and implement technical solutions that fulfill functional and non-functional requirements
  • Be willing to challenge design ideas when other opportunities exist to solve a problem
  • Explain and “whiteboard” complex technical issues to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise
  • Expected to be proactive, ambitious, and have the desire to continually improve your skill set
  • Conduct system analysis and issue resolution as needed
  • Maintain coding, compliance and security standards
  • Work with other departments, stakeholders, and customers on software development, improvements, internal tools, and implementation issues

Job Qualifications

  • BA/BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related work experience + minimum 4 years of experience developing in PHP, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS on LAMP stack
  • Experience with the following: PHP 7, PHP Frameworks (Yii, Laravel, or Symfony), Linux/Unix
  • Experience with MVC or OOP design patterns
  • Experience with Database design, development, and performance tuning using MYSQL database
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) a plus
  • Built high traffic web sites leveraging various caching strategies
  • Experience with agile development methodology
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and comfortable working in a fast moving, agile environment
  • You are self-motivated, needing little guidance on completing tasks on time and meeting expectations in terms of requirements
  • Enjoy leading, motivating and collaborating with others
