PRIME is a healthcare education and research company that provides continuing professional development (CME/CE) for the interprofessional team while identifying the barriers that prevent patients from receiving optimal care and working with experts to solve these problems throughout entire health systems. The company has been advancing the science of learning and behavior change in health care for 25 years.

PRIME is seeking a Scientific Editor who will work collaboratively with all members of the Scientific Affairs Department to ensure the quality of educational materials by researching and confirming the accuracy of scientific/biomedical content, ensuring appropriate citation of reference materials, identifying when copyright permissions are needed and obtaining such permissions, and verifying and incorporating appropriate and consistent medical abbreviations and definitions throughout the content. He/she also applies established guidelines and processes for editing, design and formatting, paragraph structure and coherence, sentence style, grammar mechanics and punctuation across company materials, including scientific content and marketing materials.

In addition, he/she supports visually interpreting and representing complex scientific/medical content in impactful educational materials customized to specified audiences. The Scientific Editor possesses the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines. He/she possesses specialized skills and experience in enhancing the visual quality and readability of scientific/biomedical documents, posters, and slide presentations through text and visual designs that convey cutting edge scientific and medical data and information.

Position Duties:

  • Review and ensure the grammatical correctness, clarity, appropriate style, and consistency of all company materials, including scientific content, marketing materials, accreditation statements and other company-wide editorial reviews
  • Ensure the accuracy and validity of content when copy editing or medical editing educational materials, including (but not limited to) monographs, journal articles, PowerPoint slides, scientific posters, abstracts, reference lists, and text for videos
  • Use databases of scientific literature to obtain peer-reviewed articles to ensure accurate citations of scientific references and to support the work of the department
  • Visually interpret and present scientific/medical content from the Scientific Affairs team, applying design, development, and graphic design techniques to develop visually appealing and compelling materials
  • Design and produce technically accurate and appealing data tables, figures, and statistics, incorporating infographic techniques where appropriate
  • Research and summarize the competitive landscape in new and emerging data including key abstracts from leading scientific/medical conferences, treatment landscapes and pipelines, and new trends in continuing education
  • Maintain the company’s written communication style and format guide, based on the AMA Manual of Style, as well as internal scientific reference management systems and internal slide libraries
  • Identify when copyright permissions are needed, and obtain and track such permissions
  • Work dynamically with all staff in an efficient and collegial manner, maximizing time and resources
  • Other duties as assigned

Candidate Requirements:

  • Excellent command the written English language, including all aspects of style, grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and spelling
  • Associate’s degree or higher in English or a related field
  • Work experience with a focus on scientific/medical editing
  • Experience in creating technical/scientific data charts, graphs, figures, and tables
  • Familiarity with scientific and medical terminology, abbreviations, and AMA, APA style guides
  • Keen attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to multi-task and balance several deadlines/production deliverables simultaneously
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Familiarity with scientific literature search engines (eg, PubMed) and reference management databases (eg, EndNote, Mendeley)
  • Work onsite at PRIME Education headquarters
