Position at IGN

IGN is hiring an experienced Tech Executive Editor! In this role you will be responsible for leading IGN’s written and video hardware coverage, including PC components, gaming peripherals, wearables, and consumer tech. You will set the tone and vision for all hardware coverage, identify, train and assign work to freelancers, manage a production budget, lead the conversation with manufacturers, and maintain an Editorial calendar as part of the IGN Tech and Commerce team.


Requirements & Expectations

This is a role for a senior-level Editor with experience in both written and video work. Candidates should be able to secure hardware for review, assign a writer, create and evolve a style guide, copy edit, schedule, and publish work on a daily basis with minimal intervention from their supervisor. Experience with unboxings, podcasts, and a clear vision for hardware video coverage is also relevant. The role does not have any direct reports, but will mentor and assign work to junior editors and freelancers. Requirements:


        A minimum of 7-10 years of experience directly covering PC, gaming, and/or consumer hardware.

        Ability to manage major projects and relationships independently and efficiently

        Experience with productivity and collaboration tools like Trello, Slack or equivalents.

        On camera experience and/or experience with editorial video production workflows.

        Already-established connections with hardware manufacturers.

        Experience with ecommerce and SEO-optimized Best Of content is a plus, but is not required.

        Specific experience with YouTube publishing, tagging and best practices is also a plus, but is not required.


Job Duties

        Use raw keyword search volume data, audience trends, other data sources to form, prioritize, and maintain an editorial calendar.

        Continually update and maintain a growing stable of evergreen “best of tech” round-up pages.

        Establish and grow new-to-IGN video formats and shows specifically designed for hardware enthusiasts.

        Assign, copy edit, build, and publish hardware reviews and round-ups.

        Closely collaborate with Video, Editorial Design, Social, and other IGN teams to ensure production and promotion of hardware content runs smoothly.

        Occasionally directly author hardware reviews and round-ups.

        Lead coverage and planning for hardware-focused events, including CES.

        Help develop skills of junior staff through notes, copy edits, and direct feedback.

        Source and develop freelancers across a wide variety of subject matters and areas of expertise.

        Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with major hardware manufacturers.
