Do you live on Twitter and Instagram? Dabbled in Tik Toks? Still occasionally check Pinterest? Well, we’d like you to join the Mashable Social Distribution and Growth team. 

Mashable is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and organized Social Media Fellow to join us at our New York City headquarters for the Fall 2019 term. 

This person will assist with the day-to-day distribution of Mashable content across multiple platforms and on Mashable.com. Our ideal candidate will have an understanding of the distributed social media ecosystem, a strong editorial and video knowledge, and an appreciation of editorial standards. We’re looking for someone who understands the importance of community management, analytics, and editorial voice across distributed social platforms. 

You’ll work across departments, interacting with members of our editorial, video, and art teams to create and track social media posts. Did we mention snacks, seltzer, and a fun office environment?

The Day-to-Day

  • Distribute content by following a set publishing schedule across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Tik Tok, and LinkedIn 
  • Collaborate with growth & social team to optimize content for distribution on social platforms
  • Write clever social copy that best optimizes content for each social platform with the Mashable voice in mind
  • Pitch Instagram/Instagram Story ideas with a focus on Mashable-specific tone and angles
  • Work closely with growth team to identify new emerging platform opportunities like Flipboard and Apple News
  • Identify and implement best practices for social platforms, SEO, and other metadata
  • Monitor real-time traffic and social data to support the editorial team
  • Identify opportunities for audience development and growth
  • Assess the competitive landscape and make strategic recommendations
  • Weekly reporting for the Growth team and other Mashable departments

Must Haves

  • Attention to detail and the willingness to quickly learn content management systems
  • An understanding and interest in the social ecosystem, digital video, and SEO
  • Experience with social media in a professional or institutional capacity preferred
  • Sound editorial judgment including a deep knowledge of media ethics
  • A positive attitude that’s solution-oriented and unafraid to ask questions
  • Interest and knowledge of tech, entertainment, and digital culture space
  • Ability to be in New York City for the duration of the fellowship
  • Minimum availability of 18 hours per week (and up to 40 hours per week)
  • A self-starter as well as a team player (a sense of humor is a must!)
