News Reporter, Editor - IGN

Editorial London, United Kingdom

Position at IGN

IGN’s news team is looking for a new content creator to help us not just research, write, and edit the stories we already specialise in, but share stories our readers and viewers haven’t yet discovered themselves. Based in either the UK or US, you’ll be working with the executive editor of news, the news team, and a pool of freelancers, you’d be reporting on day-to-day breaking stories (across gaming, movies, TV, tech, comics, and science) and pitching thoughtful follow-ups. Your work could span anything from investigative reports and op-eds to community deep-dives and video breakdowns. While you’d be based within the news team, your work will cross over with features, previews and more - you’ll become a major part of not just how we tell stories, but how we create them.

IGN’s editorial team is made up of all kinds of people that share a common love of games, TV, movies, comics, tech, and all things geeky. We strongly encourage people of every race, gender, sexual orientation, and background to apply.

  • Discovering, writing, and editing day-to-day news across all of IGN’s core topics - gaming, movies, TV, tech, comics, and science.
  • Spotting smart, interesting, unique follow-ups to the biggest topics of the day, and making them a reality as quickly and thoroughly as possible.
  • Monitoring industry and audience trends and cultural events, and building coverage around them.
  • Building industry contacts to help create informed, authoritative pieces.
  • Working across departments to help create topical content that serves our readers’ and viewers’ interests.

Required Skills

  • You’re passionate about discovering and telling stories.
  • You have strong editorial opinions, excellent writing skills, and are already writing for an existing outlet or your own blog or channel.
  • You’re embedded in the world of gaming and entertainment, and can spot a story amid the noise.
  • You understand how to write for IGN's audience
  • You have established contacts in the gaming industry.

It would be extra awesome if…

  • You have good camera presence and can speak extemporaneously on games and entertainment-related topics.
  • You’re based in London, Los Angeles, or San Francisco - or can get to our offices in those cities.
  • You can optimize your pieces for both search and organic discovery.
  • You have regularly covered trade shows and conventions.
  • You’ve appeared on podcasts.
  • You have a degree in journalism or relevant media topic

If you think this sounds like the job for you, please apply and make sure to provide a resume, cover letter, and at least three writing samples that you think show your aptitude for the role.
