THE ROLE 

Reporting to the EVP, GM of Ziff Media Group (ZMG), the VP, People will lead the development and execution of ZMG’s employee experience including recruiting, hiring/onboarding, learning & development, team building, performance management and general HR business partnership with the various brands and operating departments across ZMG. We are looking for an effective hands-on leader with a proven track record who can support the scaling of a nine-figure revenue operation, with over 700 employees across the world, through organic and M&A activities. 

This leader will be an executive team leader that complements the other ZMG executive leaders across Vertical brands (Shopping & Publishing), Product & Technology, Monetization, Operations, and Strategy & Growth, to deliver above average results for the entire ZMG business unit. This leader will manage a team of approximately 10 HR professionals across the US, UK, France, and India. They will be passionate about understanding our employees’ needs and creating solutions that maximize their performance at ZMG. The leader is a team player that lives our core values and is a benchmark for others across ZMG, while influencing upward through J2 Global. The ideal leader will be able to execute as a manager, while also leading key projects as needed and have the strategic vision and communication skills to inspire others. They are willing to challenge the status quo with a laser focus on outcomes. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Vision and Strategy: Partner with strategic stakeholders (including the rest of the Executive team) to help establish and execute on the long-term vision for key people operation functions, drive future organizational design and change management initiatives to maintain a high-performing, motivated, and impactful team. Assist the ZMG executive leadership team in developing a “One ZMG” culture. Foster an environment which stimulates open communication, collaboration, imagination and engenders a team spirit in solving problems and achieving growth expectations. 
  • Values and Culture: Promote our core values, DE&I goals, while making ZMG an employer of choice in digital media.   • Performance Management and Recognition: enhance our company-wide performance management program to help us identify high and low performers, promote and reward excellence, and drive continuous, transparent feedback across all disciplines 
  • Professional Development: Define levels and competencies across ZMG in collaboration with the operating teams. Build scalable professional development programs that aid in growing our team’s capabilities and drive employee retention. 
  • Management and Leadership Training: Drive scalable solutions around making our leaders better managers; provide coaching and feedback to our existing leadership team, and develop programs that prepare high-potential employees for management roles 
  • Recruiting: The core of your role is making sure we have the best people on our teams. This means you’ll own the recruiting function and work with our team and consultants to identify, recruit, and onboard the best talent to achieve our winning aspirations. 
  • Data and Compliance: Improve the collection and use of people-related data to aid in better decision making; develop key metrics to measure employee happiness, performance, engagement, and retention; ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements across each of our offices. 
  • People Operations: Proactively identify areas where our people processes, tools, and technology can evolve. 

THE CANDIDATE 

The ZMG - VP, People will be an independent, intelligent, data-driven, and dynamic executive who is highly results-oriented. They will bring the right combination of skills, experience, ambition and portfolio-mindset required to develop a high functioning people team. This leader will have a non-political, collaborative, fair, hands-on management style that emphasizes clear, direct, communication and transparency at all levels. The ideal candidate has demonstrable success in leading by example with a commitment to setting and achieving ambitious, but

realistic, employee experience goals. They should have a good balance between IQ and EQ, while relying on data for thoughtful and fast-paced decision making to drive velocity across the team. They must be a servant leader to their teams, with a track-record of developing talent at all levels that add to the culture and results of an organization. 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • 10+ years direct Human Resources experience, with 5+ years leading HR teams in growth-oriented and multi-national companies 
  • The proven ability to influence and drive change with executive and operating teams through active communication of the people strategy. 
  • Proven success in delivering high-impact people operations programs around performance management, culture, employee engagement, and retention ● A track record of being a business partner to executives across a variety of functional areas and a demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all departments and staff 
  • Expertise in coaching across the full spectrum of seniority 
  • The ability to think strategically but also focus on tactical and operational issues. ● Comfortable with data, KPIs, and OKRs that measure the effectiveness of programs and strategies. Ability to build and communicate business rationale and financial impacts of people-based programs. 

BONUS POINTS FOR... 

Leadership: Proven track record as a leader of HR and people teams, with increasing complexity. Experience in driving increases in overall employee satisfaction (eNPS), engagement, and retention. 

Industry Experience: Experience in the digital media or consumer tech industries is a plus. Experience with commerce, performance marketing, content and/or advertising is also helpful but not required. 

Team Size and Composition Has overseen multinational teams and partnered with corporate/parent company HR teams. 

M&A Experience: Experience performing due diligence for M&A targets as well as proven integration and change management to ensure that we’re all better together. Experience within a corporate portfolio company or private equity-backed companies.
