Editorial Lead - Entertainment

IGN’s content team is looking for an editorial lead to help steer our entertainment coverage, helping shape content direction, strategy, and topic selection based on audience interest and best SEO practices in collaboration with the vertical leads.

 

Reporting to the Director of Content Strategy, you’ll oversee and help manage our entertainment partner relationships to create opportunities for exclusives, access to talent and IPs, premiere partnerships, and event collaborations. You’ll oversee a team of staff and freelancers to help coordinate both daily and large-scale entertainment content projects, and will help maintain and shape IGN’s voice.

 

IGN’s editorial team is made up of all kinds of people that share a common love of games, TV, movies, comics, tech, and all things geeky. We strongly encourage people of every race, gender, sexual orientation, and background to apply.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

        Developing entertainment (film, TV, comics, anime, wrestling) content through new relationships, editorial initiatives, and coverage areas.

        Monitoring analytics to determine what our content priorities should be.

        Developing new daily and large-scale content and event strategies and honing existing products to better engage with our established audience and encourage new users to come to the site.

        Developing a strong community-first content strategy.

        Assigning and overseeing a team of staff and freelance writers to contribute to IGN’s entertainment editorial content, and pursuing and championing new voices.

        Maintaining and developing relationships with PR, events, and industry partners to continue to establish IGN’s name in the entertainment space.

        Maintaining and honing IGN’s voice in daily content.

        Making sure editorial workflows stay organized and efficient in cross-functional departments.

 

Required Skills

 

        You have notable experience in an entertainment editor role, and have managed staff and freelancers previously.

        You have strong editorial opinions and journalistic standards, excellent writing skills, and an impeccable eye for an edit.

        You have experience covering tentpole entertainment events (San Diego Comic-Con, Paley Fest, TCAs, etc.).

        You can demonstrate how you’ve used data to shape a content strategy.

        You understand how to write for IGN's audience.

        You have a deep Rolodex of contacts in the entertainment industry.

 

It would be extra awesome if…

 

        You’re based in Los Angeles - or can get to our office in that city.

        You have extensive experience specifically covering the television industry for a comparable editorial website to IGN.

        You’re knowledgeable and passionate about the video game industry.

        You have experience in SEO.

        You have good camera presence and can speak extemporaneously on entertainment-related topics.

        You’ve contributed to and produced video and podcast content.

        You have a degree in journalism or relevant media topic.

        You have imaginative ideas for how to speak to our audience and ensure they’re engaged, repeat users.
