J2 Global seeks a senior executive to be part of the Finance Leadership Team serving as SVP Internal Audit. The person in this role will be responsible for all internal audit functions, as well as oversight of financial governance including Sarbanes Oxley 404, business integrity and ethics. 


The Internal Audit function operates as J2’s independent appraiser, responsible for examining and evaluating business activities and related risk for the purpose of ensuring regulatory compliance, safeguarding company assets and improving its systems of financial and operational controls. This position will ensure that all audit work conforms to the “Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.” 


In addition, this position will oversee the company’s business Integrity and lead financial and accounting fraud investigations. This position reports directly to the CFO for operational management and to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors for assurance and compliance oversight and will provide formal assessments of the adequacy of the Company’s internal control environment.


Overall Responsibilities:

  • Set the strategy and vision for Internal Audit, Governance & Sarbanes Oxley in alignment with the overall Finance Function priorities and strategy. Draw on diverse sources of information (e.g., competitor, industry, economic) to develop strategies and identify business improvement opportunities.
  • Manage areas related to Sarbanes-Oxley Act to maintain internal controls to ensure the identification of significant accounts, processes, assertions and risks, documentation of significant processes and the identification and evaluation of the control design, the performance of tests and controls and the overall assessment of financial reporting and internal controls.
  • Provide leadership in the development of audit plans, procedures and programs to evaluate the adequacy of the company’s internal control environment
  • Use knowledge of J2’s business to make sound decisions that balance the priorities of relevant stakeholders. Make resource decisions that involve greater risk and have significant impact on meeting long term enterprise objectives.
  • Monitor and innovate, as appropriate, accounting practices and strategies to optimize business performance
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with external auditors to ensure effectiveness of service delivery and appropriate resolution of findings/issues identified.
  • Work closely with Legal and Compliance Office on compliance programs involving Business Ethics and Integrity, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Patriot Act, etc.
  • Develop an organizational competency in the audit function by identifying and integrating best practices in workflow, measurement, technologies and resource configuration
  • Oversee internal audit processes of the enterprise as well as the specific administrative activities associated with operating the Internal Audit (business planning, reporting, budgeting, etc.) team
  • Achieve annual goals and budget targets by effectively managing resources and stakeholder requirements
  • Responsible for controlling appropriate expenses, and maximizing returns on investments to J2 Global and key stakeholders. Consistently identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve operating margins
  • Ensure appropriate metrics are in place to manage business risks and improve decision making; ensure strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard J2 and improve operations.

Team Management:

  • Assemble a high performing leadership team that bridges the gaps in own competencies based on an exceptional understanding of business performance requirements
  • Improve business performance through leveraging talent and organizational systems
  • Supervise day-to-day activities of direct reports and promote a work environment that is fair, equitable, feedback-rich and career opportunity-focused
  • Set goals and expectations for direct reports and hold staff accountable for successful performance
  • Work with Human Resource Leaders to anticipate future talent needs based on business growth plans, and allocate resources appropriately. 

You have:

  • 15+ years of experience in finance and accounting business processes, including auditing in a Fortune 500 company or a top tier professional services firm
  • Demonstrated success in managing company relationship with the company’s external audit firm
  • BA degree in Accounting or related area
  • CPA or CISA certification required (will consider MBA with demonstrated experience)
  • Experience working in a matrix organization, leading and managing large scale initiatives and managing associated change
  • Strong leadership skills – ability to create a compelling vision, demonstrate flexibility in approach; and motivate others (who may, oftentimes, not be direct reports) to achieve desired results
  • Ability to skillfully negotiate in tough situations, selling ideas persuasively, settling differences and winning concessions without damaging relationships; You can be both direct and forceful while remaining diplomatic 
  • Experience building effective relationships with a broad group of stakeholders in order to foster trust and influence key decisions Excellent communication skills working with the company’s most senior executives
  • Depth of knowledge of accounting theory, auditing standards, procedures and related techniques. Particular benefit if knowledge of PCAOB, FASB and SEC practices, processes and directional activities. Able to assimilate rapidly changing public company environment and standards into the company.
  • Knowledge of auditing information systems and systems designs
  • Experience in M&A is an important attribute as the company very acquisitive
  • Strong working knowledge of information technology and its implications for business commerce and managing and controlling business operations
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills; ability to take large volumes of complex information and present it in a clear and concise manner to senior management, owners and franchisees; uses data and a cogent problem solving methodology in decision making and impact assessment
  • Exposure to international complexities in accounting and finance business processes
  • The ability to build effective teams that are committed to organizational goals and initiatives
  • Cloud Services/Digital Media industry experience strongly preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of data analytics and continuous testing protocols a plus
