Position at IGN

We are seeking a Publisher to oversee video, editorial and social content strategy for a global games and entertainment audience. The Publisher oversees all aspects of content planning and production and develops key strategies and workflow for daily coverage, syndication, social extension, and community, helps create and execute the editorial vision, manages partner relationships, and achieves defined results against a budget.


The role will work very closely with all leads across the organization as well as leads within other business units at Ziff Davis. Candidates must have established relationships and a proven track record of accomplishment in leading teams, content strategy, and a keen understanding of the games and entertainment verticals. The Publisher will be expected to be an organized, creative, and results-driven strategic thinker who can manage multiple tasks and delegate responsibilities. A minimum of 10 years of editorial/video management background as well as experience working with branded, integrated marketing, and social teams are required. Reporting to the Chief Content Officer.


General Responsibilities:

• Oversees editorial, social, and video operations across the US

• Management of editorial/production resources, content strategy and acquisition, and growth of audience engagement

• Working with content team leads on development and optimization of workflow and team structure

• Maintaining a code of ethics and system of checks and balances to ensure sound and transparent editorial standards and practices

• Ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines

• Working with Integrated Marketing on content and event monetization, sponsorship concepts, and overall RFP support strategies and development

• Aiding team in structuring and maintaining strategic partnerships around content initiatives, such as syndication to platforms like YouTube

• Cultivating relationships with publishers and developers

• Managing expense budgets, including freelance/contractors, T&E, and video/studio capex

• Weekly reporting on content traffic and inventory trends, subscriber/follower growth, and editorial milestones

• Working with Chief Content Officer and department leads on vision, goals, and new initiatives for IGN as a whole

• Working with production, design, and engineering teams to help evolve CMS and community platforms

• Collaboration with IGN International to support content localization and distribution in 26 languages and 115 countries


Experience Required:

• 10+ years of online news or publishing media experience

• Track Record of successfully managing editorial/video teams

• Comfortable leveraging performance data and analytics to guide resource allocation decisions and optimization

• Superior communication skills, including writing, copy editing, speaking, presentation, and face-to-face skills

• Understanding of editorial principles, video and social landscapes, and key growth areas

• Knowledge with CMS platforms, operational systems creation process, team development, training, and management

• Proven capacity to generate ideas, launch new products, and grow audience

• Experience developing partnerships in the games and entertainment space

• Background in video production and/or journalism

• Superior Smash Bros., Tetris, or Mario Kart skills
