This is a rare opportunity to join a globally highly experienced System Administration team responsible for designing, implementing and managing the j2’s Cloud Backup infrastructure.

The position is a hands-on position and will serve as the technical escalation contact for support and project issues with approximately 45% daily network administration and support tasks and approximately 55% project-related tasks. The Senior Systems Administrator will be responsible for storage and cloud backup architecture, along with network design and implementation.

You will be expected to manage your own projects and possess excellent communication skills. Pro-actively identify and resolve operational issues across the J2 Cloud Backup network as well as working on and running infrastructure projects as part of ongoing growth and improvements. 

J2’s Cloud Backup business runs almost exclusively on our own hardware, so experience of virtualization technologies is essential, but also being comfortable with hardware as well as software is critical.

Key Technical Requirements:  

  • Advanced Linux, (CentOS/RedHat), systems administration gained in an enterprise environment.
  • Virtualization experience (Hyper-v and VMWare)
  • KVM
  • Deep understanding and experience of local and network storage configuration (RAID, SCSI, NFS)
  • Remote management of servers in CoLo environments (iLO, iDRAC, IPMI)
  • Network experience, Switches, Firewalls, VLANs, VPN (pfsense, Cisco, Fortinet, HP, Extreme Networks)
  • Web Server, SSL knowledge.
  • Strong Windows server knowledge, Active Directory, LDAP
  • Experienced with monitoring tools ideally Zabbix
  • Knowledge and experience with any of the following technologies would be a distinct advantage: Ahsay, Asigra, RapidRecovery or Veeam.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactive monitoring of the networks across Europe, troubleshooting and resolving issues where required.
  • Management and deployment of J2’s Cloud Backup storage infrastructure, and assisting this for other platforms
  • Monitoring of service metrics, ensuring that department SLAs are met.
  • Deploying new monitoring tools where necessary to ensure good service across the board.
  • Working with the existing teams on development of automation and management tools to ensure J2’s Cloud Backup business can continue to grow quickly and efficiently.
  • Management of hardware infrastructure, including rack deployments, spares and RMAs.
  • Scripting of any management/maintenance tools required
