The Opportunity

MedPage Today (medpagetoday.com) is a physician-focused medical news and information site. We are searching for an Editorial Assistant to accomplish administrative, production, and research tasks across our custom and native editorial teams. This EA will be an energetic multi-tasker, able to take on a variety of different responsibilities across the two teams. They will be extremely productive, love to keep information organized, and be socially versatile and personable.

The tasks that this person will be responsible for range from highly administrative ones (listed below) to typical production tasks, but there will also be opportunities to help our enterprise and investigative team by monitoring social media to identify leads that the team can pursue for stories. 

Familiarity with medicine and medical specialties appreciated but not required—this can be learned. We are a daily news site where productivity is key and the ability to generate ideas is highly valued.

This position can either be located in our main office in New York City, or it can be remote.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Managing invoices and invoice spreadsheets
  • Processing paperwork for onboarding new writers, reviewers, and contributing physicians
  • Tracking content flow across multiple projects
  • Tracking, filing, and organizing freelancer submissions
  • Corresponding with reviewers and authors
  • Sending "thank you's" to enterprise sources with links to the stories they're quoted in, copying the writer (for relationship and reputation building)


  • Proofreading for sense, spelling, style consistency
  • Preparing production spreadsheets
  • Inputting content into the MedPage CMS
  • Generating and testing emails on behalf of the MPT Production team

Research and Writing

  • Searching for relevant journal articles to report on in custom centers
  • Daily "sourcing” for our enterprise & investigative team: Checking social media first thing every morning for story tips to pass along
  • Assisting with surveys and call-outs on an as-needed basis
  • Depending on the candidate: work on unbylined "evergreen" content -- either writing the whole piece or contributing research

Job Qualifications

  • Previous administrative and / or editorial and / or production experience preferred but not required
  • Ability to work in all Office systems including excel, and within our CMS (which is basic)
  • High attention to detail, bordering on perfectionism
  • Excellent time-management skills, organization and project management skills
  • Familiarity with social media
  • Able to work well with others and work across teams
  • An interest in medical publishing
