Head of Sustainability

Role Overview

Reporting directly to J2 Global’s CEO, the Head of Sustainability will lead programs and initiatives relating to Environmental Sustainability and Community while coordinating with the internal teams driving DE&I, Data and Governance efforts. Moreover, this role will champion the company’s Five Pillars of Purpose (DEI, Sustainability, Data, Community, Governance) and embrace the company mantra of “Doing > Talking.”  With a deep knowledge of the ESG disclosure and analytics landscape, the Head of Sustainability will lead all of the company’s ESG reporting. The Head of Sustainability will have up to two direct reports and an annual budget to support J2’s ESG efforts.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Program Development and Execution

  • Environmental Sustainability programs ownership: J2 Global’s commitment to reducing its environmental impacts and fostering a green future will be brought to life through a companywide Environmental Sustainability practice led by the Head of Sustainability and working in partnership with the various business units in the company.
  • Community programs ownership: The Head of Sustainability will develop and execute programs, at the corporate level and in partnership with business units, benefiting those who use J2 products and services, and who are part of the local communities in which J2 operates around the world.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: The Sustainability Head will work closely with J2 Global’s heads of HR, IT, Legal and Corporate Communications to ensure the company’s DE&I, Data and Governance efforts reflect a best in class approach that delivers quantifiable results against each pillar’s priorities, and translate those into comprehensive ESG reporting and disclosures.

 ESG Performance Management & Reporting

  • Translate and convert J2 Global’s purpose-driven agenda into meaningful ESG disclosures for raters and rankers.
  • Develop and align the organization on sustainability key performance indicators (KPIs) and establish targets/ goals for them.
  • Monitor and facilitate the progress of sustainability programs and governance systems, consistent with strategies, goals, measurements, and reporting standards.
  • Report and manage ESG raters, rankers, frameworks (and other sustainability reporting entities). Problem-solve for any gaps in reporting and company ESG operations and implementation.

 Communicating ESG Trends & Key Sustainability Issues

  • Monitor global sustainability and governance developments and trends so J2 employs best practices, is competitive with best-in-class peer organizations and complies with current and upcoming government and investor requirements.
  • Counsel executive team and brief Board of Directors on sustainability opportunities and risks
  • Provide internal advisory services to businesses and functions on emerging sustainability trends
  • Communicate benefits of J2’s sustainability strategy to the financial community (e.g. investors and analysts).

 Requirements:

  • Preferred 7+ years’ experience developing and implementing sustainability strategy and sustainability governance programs, preferably with an understanding of Internet services, media and technology companies
  • Knowledge of and exposure to key ESG raters and rankers (e.g. MSCI, ISS) and financial reporting and sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g, SASB, TCFD, GRI, CDP)
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • Excellent collaboration and leadership skills
  • Exceptional analytical, written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong external network of sustainability peers in other companies and at ratings/rankings entities
