Network and Systems Specialist II

    Under minimal supervision, provides advanced analysis of user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate or improve processing of existing computer system and/or network.  Provides complex computer systems and/or network design, installation and operation expertise to support client and team activities for one or more clients as required.


    • Works actively to maintain current in a variety of computer and network related technologies such as routers, switches, firewalls, servers, etc.
    • Provides advanced support of PC’s and networks throughout the organization and our clients
    • Identifies areas of operation, which are in need of upgraded equipment. 
    • Assists with installation and troubleshooting of recommended systems. 
    • Assists users to identify and solve data communication problems. 
    • Performs analysis of current operational procedures, identifies problems, and learns specific input and output requirements per basic research data provided by Level I Analyst. 
    • Researches, tests, evaluates, and recommends telecommunications and data network systems.
    • Tests and evaluates hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing system, using equipment such as computer terminal and modem. 
    • Analyzes test data and recommends hardware or software for purchase.
    • Monitors system performance. 
    • Maintains project on time and on budget. 
    • Reviews computer system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested program or program change is possible within existing system.
    • Instructs users in use of equipment.
    • Prepares, in cooperation with other team members, proposals, presentations, and reports for clients regarding project activities. 
    • With team, provides network design and software technology recommendations for subsequent presentation to client; evaluates analytically the various potential solutions and helps recommend the best overall solutions to client requirements. 
    • Writes detailed description of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer program per survey data provided by Level I Analyst.
    • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations
    • Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability
    • Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning
    • Provide Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues
    • Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
    • Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company’s security team.
    • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
    • Design and implement new solutions and improve resilience of the current environment
    • Provide remote support to on-site engineers and end users/customers during installation
    • Experience with Citrix, Checkpoint, Linux, and apple is a plus.

    • MCSE, CCNA, or other comparable industry certifications OR working toward the CCNP certification equivalent.
    • Azure and/or AWS cloud experience
    • Experience with Windows Server, VMWare, and Cisco is a must.
    • Broad knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies
    • Bachelor's degree from four year college or university; five years of recent computer industry related experience in hardware, software and/or network systems or equivalent combination of education and experience.

     Ability to:

    • read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents;
    • respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community; write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format;
    • effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors; apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations;
    • apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis;
    • interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
    • Travel



    The employee is regularly required to talk or hear and is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and sit.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
