Purpose of Role:

We are looking for a Lab Assistant to join our team to support the Science Teachers & Students by preparing laboratory materials, maintaining lab equipment, and ensuring a safe and organized learning environment. The role involves assisting with experiments, managing inventory, and providing technical support during lab activities.

Principal/Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and set up materials, equipment, and chemicals required for science experiments and demonstrations.
  • Ensure all materials are available and correctly measured before the start of lab sessions.
  • Assist in the setup and cleanup of lab experiments, ensuring that all equipment is properly sanitized and stored.
  • Monitor and maintain lab safety protocols, ensuring a safe environment for students and staff.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain lab equipment, reporting any malfunctions or safety hazards.
  • Ensure proper storage, labeling, and disposal of chemicals and other hazardous materials.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of lab supplies and equipment & order new supplies as needed and ensure that all materials are properly labeled and stored.
  • Track and manage the usage of consumable materials, ensuring that supplies are replenished in a timely manner.
  • Assist science teachers during lab sessions by providing technical support and helping students with their experiments.
  • Guide students in the proper use of lab equipment and the application of safety procedures.
  • Provide support in organizing and maintaining the cleanliness and order of the lab space.
  • Keep detailed records of experiments, equipment maintenance, and inventory.
  • Assist in the preparation of lab manuals, instructional materials, and safety guidelines.

 

 

Skills, Qualification and Experience:

 

  • Qualification: Graduate Diploma or Bachelor Degree in any related field.
  • Previous related experience in a lab assistant role, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational abilities and a customer-oriented approach.
  • Qualities: Team player, empathy, respect for diversity, commitment to continuous learning, and a strong focus on child safety and wellbeing.
