Position: Accountant – Madrid Schools

Location: Madrid Schools/Hybrid

 

Purpose of Role

The Accountant – Madrid Schools is responsible for managing financial transactions, recording those into the financial software, ensuring compliance with accounting regulations and preparing financial reports for the schools in Madrid. The Accountant – Madrid schools reports into the Head of Finance – Madrid schools.

 

Accountant – Madrid Schools

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting, Controls and General Ledger Accountancy: -

  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledgers for the Madrid schools, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards, under Spanish GAAP and IFRS GAAP.
  • Process month end and year end accounting and ensures month end deadlines are met.
  • Support the preparation of monthly financial reports, as required.
  • Work with the Billing and Collections centralised team to ensure records are accurate and up to date to facilitate accurate parent billing for the three schools.
  • Work with the Billing and Collections centralised team to understand Accounts Receivable debt and any support required for the successful collections of amounts owed.
  • Coordinate the information flow with schools to ensure the supplier information is received in time and through the official channels.
  • Manage the supplier invoice posting for Madrid schools for approval by Head of Finance.
  • Review and propose supplier invoices payment listings for Madrid schools, to be approved by the Head of Finance.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Conduct regular reviews of balance sheet movements and perform reconciliation and analysis on all balances and resolving all reconciling items.
  • Record and reconcile taxes in the Netsuite financial software (VAT, Withholding tax, SII report and Social Security)
  • Monitor and record company travel expenses in the Netsuite, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Manage Capex module through the financial software and reconciliation within the accountancy.
  • Work closely with the Head of Finance for Madrid schools in the annual budget and the P&L forecasting process for the schools.
  • Assist with the interim and year end audit procedures, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Support the Head of Finance for Madrid schools in understanding actual variances versus Budget and Forecast, as required.
  • Ad hoc tasks and responsibilities, as required by the role.

 

School Partnering: -

  • Participate in review calls, or face to face meetings, with the Head of Finance and FP&A and school management teams, to provide an overall understanding of matters impacting school performance against budgets, forecasts and year and over performance.
  • Support on integration of any new school acquisitions in Madrid.

 

 

 

Systems: -

 

  • Provide feedback, suggestions and input from the school, to help develop the systems and facilitate efficient and consistent finance processes and reporting across the school.
  • Champion the implementation, use and full adoption of the ISP core accounting platform, NetSuite in the school and support other key ISP core system implementations, such as ISAMS/Netsuite Billing.

 

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Accountancy qualification is needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office applications is needed, particularly Excel.
  • Prior experience in using the NetSuite/PBCS applications or any other ERP systems would be advantageous.
  • Ability to build good working relationships with all members and levels of the organization.
  • A methodical, highly organized approach to the execution of assigned tasks and responsibilities.
  • Positive, proactive, passionate, personable, results orientated, ambitious professional, who is keen to progress within a global organization.
  • Strong organizational, time-management skills and an ability to deal with shifting priorities.
  • Dealing with external advisors (suppliers, auditors, tax etc). 
  • Previous experience in a multinational environment, is desirable.
  • Fluent written and spoken Spanish a requirement. English language skills an advantage.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with maturity and discretion.
  • Capacity to take initiative and solve problems, supported by the Head of Finance – Madrid schools.

  • Finance Team for Madrid schools and colleagues in other schools in the region.
  • Billing and Collections Team supporting the Madrid schools.

  • Administrative and School Management teams for the Madrid schools.
