ISP Preschool Assistant (Bilingual) Role Profile

 

Purpose of Role

The Preschool Assistant (Bilingual) supports the early childhood learning environment by assisting the lead teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating bilingual setting for young children. This role involves helping with classroom management, preparing materials, supporting individual and group activities, and fostering language development in both English and Spanish. The assistant plays a key role in encouraging social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development in our youngest learners.

ISP Preschool Assistant (Bilingual) Key Responsibilities

  • Support the lead teacher in delivering age-appropriate educational activities in both English and Spanish.
  • Assist with the supervision and care of students during classroom, outdoor, and transition times.
  • Help prepare and organize classroom materials, learning centers, and daily routines.
  • Promote positive behavior and social interaction among children, modeling respectful and inclusive conduct.
  • Support bilingual language acquisition through songs, storytelling, conversations, and structured activities.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Observe and document student progress and share relevant observations with the lead teacher.
  • Assist with feeding, dressing, toileting, and hygiene routines as needed.
  • Build trusting, supportive relationships with children and families.
  • Follow school procedures and policies related to safeguarding, health, and safety.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and school events as required.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and families in both English and Spanish.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous experience working with young children, preferably in a school or early learning environment.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish, with the ability to support learning in both languages.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and age-appropriate practices.
  • Warm, caring, and patient demeanor with a genuine love for working with children.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of child safety and safeguarding principles.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a positive, proactive attitude.
  • Basic proficiency in using technology for communication and documentation.
  • Relevant early childhood or assistant teacher certification is an asset.
