Secondary Teacher: Job Description
 
Purpose of Role 
To be a dynamic and inspirational teacher of your specialist subject with in-depth knowledge and a real passion for this subject. Effective planning and the delivery of creative and dynamic lessons from Key Stage 3 through to Sixth Form is paramount as promoting the application of your subject knowledge through a wide range of engaging, practical activities. You should have experience of teaching the exam syllabus for your subject at both GCSE and IB or equivalent and will strive to maintain the high standards already set in this subject, promoting inquisitive, reflective and independent learning and supporting all students to reach their own individual goals. You should be a strong team player with a practical and flexible approach to problem solving, who is also keen to play a leading role in the continuing development and improvement of your subject and the implementation of a range of new learning initiatives across the school.
 
As a secondary teacher, you will:

Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning:
  • Contribute to a culture where students experience a positive and enriching learning experience within the faculty.
  • Encourage high standards and expectations of behaviour from students and ensure all staff are consistently using the school policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate analytical thinking to improve the quality of students' learning through using effective teaching techniques and the effective utilisation of resources and assessment.
  • Contribute to the department and school improvement planning process and support and promote the educational priorities of the school.
  • Contribute to the development and/or implementation of school policies
  • Use the performance management process to advance student learning and enhance professional practice in line with the school's aspirations and priorities.
  • Contribute to the development of schemes of work which identify clear targets and success criteria for securing student outcomes.
  • Provide accurate and detailed assessment of student progress and communicate this to the students and parents using the school assessments systems.
  • To keep up-to-date with subject syllabus changes and to undertake development and training opportunities as appropriate.
  • Effectively using homework and other extra-curricular learning opportunities to support progress.
  • To communicate effectively as a form tutor or subject teacher, ensuring timely follow-up (48 hours) and effective resolution where appropriate.
 
Student Welfare and Safeguarding
  • To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
  • To maintain good order and discipline among students and safeguard their health and safety both when they are on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere.
