Teaching Assistant: Job Description
Purpose of Role
To assist the children of the allocated class (in conjunction with the class teacher) in providing a dynamic learning environment to enable pupils´ access to learning by supervising and assisting pupils across a wide range of supported learning activities. You will also need to promote the development of the physical and mental wellbeing of pupils as directed by the teacher.
You should be a strong team player with a practical and flexible approach to problem solving and show a keenness to play a central role in the continuing development and improvement of our primary school.
As a teaching assistant, you will:
● Uphold public trust in school leadership and maintain high standards of ethics, behaviour and professional conduct.
● Build positive and respectful relationships across the school community.
● Serve in the best interests of the school’s children.
Responsibilities:
- To effectively assist the teachers in all curriculum areas in the assigned class.
- To work effectively with the class teacher to ensure clear expectations are set in each class that you work with.
- To assist in creating an inspiring learning environment for all pupils which could include assisting in the display and presentation of learning walls and pupils work inside and outside of the classroom environment as required
- Support groups within the class – e.g. phonics, circle times and focused learning activities.
- Prepare, maintain and use equipment/resources required to meet the lesson plans/relevant learning activity and assist pupils in their use.
- To be available to assist and/or cover other year groups if required
- To attend class trip of the allocated class / or cover year groups if required
- Attend parent meetings and events related to the class/es you are working with
- Work with the class teacher to observe pupils for the purposes of developing their learning including recording the observations on the school platform Undertake training and CPD as required - attend staff meetings when required.
To assist with general school duties, which may include:
- Setting up classrooms, preparing resources, displays, tidying and clearing away.
- Supervise and engage with the children during patio times
- Setting up and packing up the dining room
- Supervise and encourage children to try new foods
- Supervision of children entering and leaving school premises
- Assisting class teacher with translations (Correspondence to parents, ie weekly newsletters, informative letters, reports, translation at parent meetings and informative sessions for your class)
Student Welfare and Safeguarding
● To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
● To maintain good order and discipline among students and safeguard their health and safety both when they are on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere.

● Be accountable for leading, managing and developing student well-being and safeguarding in line with school policies and work closely with SLT and Head of school to ensure that good practice is evident at all times.
