The position serves as a key point of financial operations contact and direct liaison between international project management teams and the Controller function. This position is responsible for implementing general accounting processes for as many as 100 international exchanges and development projects worldwide.

The work is performed in a demanding, fast-paced, high-intensity, and high-stress global financial operations and cognitive work environment, in accordance with IREX policies, procedures and regulations.


  • Timely and accurate process and reconciliation of accounting transactions;
  • Assists monthly close processes;
  • Maintains inter-company balances for global operations in two dozen countries;
  • Reconciliation, monthly billings, and foreign exchange adjustments;
  • Compiles on a monthly basis assigned elements of the entity financial reporting package;
  • Performs flux analysis; banking operations; international cash in transit operations accounting;
  • Appraises, assesses, or critiques supporting information for transactions and reporting completeness, accuracy and compliance on the basis of specific standards and criteria for US GAAP, US GAS, OMB Uniform Guidancefor Federal awards, and IREX procedures, policies and regulations;
  • Assists the Controller function to perform corporate tax and other indirect tax transactions;
  • Assists the Controller function with resource-gathering, resolving and fulfilling inquiries, including the single audit, financial statement audit and the annual form 990;
  • Recommends and enforces IREX internal controls, policies and procedures;
  • Updates accounting policies, improves accounting procedures and maintains proper accounting records and documentation;
  • Assists the Controller function with other accounting functions and duties as necessary.

Specific to this position

  • Manages corporate credit card expense reconciliation by coordinating with expense reports preparers and supervising Accounting interns to process the reports in SAP Concur and Deltek Costpoint;
  • Manages corporate travel expense reconciliation by coordinating with travel agency;
  • Analyzes credit card advance accounts and follows up with counterparts to timely reconcile the related accounts;
  • Assists in monthly financial reporting and Board/Finance Committee briefing book;
  • Assists with monthly and quarterly funder financial reports review;
  • Manages asset and liabilities reconciliations including prepaid, deferred, investments and fixed assets, etc.;
  • Manages employee advance and non-staff advance account reconciliations;
  • Acts as Administrator for IREX corporate credit card program and SAP Concur platform;
  • Assists with quality assurance program on transaction reviews;
  • Acts as administrator for Deltek Time system to ensure timely submission;
  • Manages data entry for payroll information in Deltek Costpoint;
  • Manages the reconciliation of all payroll-related assets and liability accounts;
  • Acts as backup for Staff Accountant for Payroll



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or relevant discipline with one to three years’ experience in non-profit and Federal grants financial management;
  • Knowledge of IREX or experience working in similar international non-profit organizations with revenue and assets of $100 million or higher is required;
  • Proficient in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook;
  • Proven ability to analyze financial statements and general ledger accuracy in Deltek Costpoint, SAP Concur and Cognos or similar systems;
  • Ability to work independently with a high-level of self-motivation and as part of an international team to meet global performance goals and deadlines


  • Master’s degree in Accounting or relevant discipline;
  • CPA Certification
