POSITION SUMMARY
IREX is seeking a media content monitoring consultant to review and analyze content of media outlets, as requested by IREX, and provide evaluative reports on their content using a reporting template to be provided by IREX. Content to be monitored may include current affairs programs, magazine programs, interviews, multimedia reports, and debate programs. Reports will focus on qualitative assessments of the media outlets’ ability to meet standards of professional journalism, whether the content meets the needs of its audience, whether the content is consistent with the goals and objectives of IREX’s program, whether content quality has benefitted from training, review language to avoid inflammatory statements, and related assistance, and additional criteria as determined by IREX.
The consultant is to work remotely and is not required to be located in a specific location during this consultancy. IREX may award work to more than one candidate under this solicitation, depending on the needs of the program. IREX anticipates awarding initial consultancies for a period of 4-5 months, from June, 2022 through October, 2022, with the potential for extension at IREX’s discretion. Candidates must be willing and able to commit to the full period
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Consultant will analyze and provide reports on radio, television, and online media content of IREX’s partner media outlets using a reporting template to be provided by IREX.
- Consultant will participate in feedback sessions on the reports they produce with IREX, discussing the content of their reports at the request of IREX.
- Feedback sessions with the team can be called ad-hoc if needed based on emergencies.
LEVEL OF EFFORT
Upon receiving a monitoring assignment, IREX and the consultant will agree on an estimate of time required to complete the duties described above.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience working in a journalistic capacity in a broadcast and/or online newsroom setting with some experience at senior editorial or editorial-management level required
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in media monitoring and evaluation preferred
- Experience working in political transition and post-conflict environments is preferred
- Experience working in the MENA (Middle East/North Africa) geographic region is preferred
- Excellent communication skills
- Advanced or Native fluency in Arabic is required
- Excellent English-language written skills required
- Ability to work under pressure
