Responsibilities and Expectations: 

Integrated Power Services (IPS) is seeking an Electrical Field Service Engineer who works under general guidance and minimal supervision providing technical support for installation of aftermarket repair, maintenance, breakdown emergency support, and remote troubleshooting. This person will provide technical leadership and functional support focused on achieving IPS's annual operating plan growth and operating objectives.  This person will also develop and deploy technologies that advance the strategic vision and mission of IPS, and establish uniform specifications and work standards, for wind generators and turbine in-shop repair and field service functions. Responsibilities include:

  • Provide electrical engineering and technical support to Renewables Business.
  • Ensure that IPS solutions meet customer expectations and applicable industry standards.
  • Ensure compliance with operating policies and procedures.
  • Utilize Continuous Improvement Process Solution (CIPS) tools and Processes to deliver continued quality and productivity to our customers.
  • Enforce strict safety protocols and compliance with regulatory requirements in all fields and shop activities.
  • Provide Electrical technical support to customers, repair shops, and field service activities
  • Test and monitor wind turbine and generator operational performance providing solutions to optimize or repair
  • Troubleshoot wind turbine performance issues and failures in-shop, on-site, and up-tower
  • Perform RCFA on failed generator and turbine components
  • Drive the development of electrical work repair and instructions
  • Develop and maintain repair/field service work procedures and work instructions
  • Participate in reverse engineering and redesign projects for various turbine electrical components (breakers, inverters, transformers, controls, etc.)
  • Provide electrical technical support to customers, repair shops, and field service activities
  • Ensure that repairs meet customer expectations and applicable industry standards
  • Assist with failure and repair reports on turbine electrical components
  • Assist with the implementation of quality improvement actions
  • Drive the development of electrical work motor repair instructions
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with operating policies and procedures
  • Actively participate in the IPS UCE tier meeting process
  • Utilize Continuous Improvement Process Solution (CIPS) tools and Processes

 

Qualifications and Competencies

 

Qualifications

 

  • B.S. Electrical Engineering Degree preferred
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in testing, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of wind generators and turbines 
  • Knowledge of Turbine Power Electronics and Inverter Systems
  • Knowledge of Instrumentation related to SCADA/Control Systems
  • Knowledge of Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) and safety procedures as it relates to Wind Turbines
  • Working knowledge of MODBUS, DNP3, IEC, OPC standards protocols
  • Familiarity with onshore industry codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, IEC, ISO, etc.)
  • Proficient in applicable engineering calculations, assessments, and analysis
  • Willing and able to climb Onshore Wind Turbines for troubleshooting purposes
  • Experience performing RCFA to determine failure mode and FMEAs
  • Experience with the design, manufacturing, application, repair, testing, maintenance, and diagnostics of wind turbines
  • Ability to perform advanced diagnostic assessments to troubleshoot generator and control issues with applicable test equipment
  • Ability to relate well with others in a professional and knowledgeable manner
  • Ability to prioritize and maintain a high degree of organization
  • Poses excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Must be willing to travel up to 1-2 weeks per month
