Responsibilities and Expectations: 

As a Planner Buyer Coordinator for IPS, you will be handling the day-to-day purchasing of materials and supplies in a timely manner as required. This role ensures that specialized parts are available for both planned preventive maintenance and emergency repair projects. You will balance the urgency of motor-down situations with the cost-efficiencies of strategic sourcing.

  • Develop and manage the production schedule for electric motor repairs, generator sets, and switchgear services.
  • Coordinate with Shop Foremen and Field Service Technicians to prioritize "rush" repairs for critical infrastructure clients.
  • Align material arrivals with shop capacity to minimize "work-in-progress" (WIP) dwell time.
  • Source and purchase specialized components such as magnet wire, VPI resins, babbitt bearings, and power electronics.
  • Manage relationships with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and secondary market suppliers to find obsolete or long-lead-time parts.
  • Review technical specifications and blueprints to ensure purchased materials meet NEMA or IEEE standards.
  • Manage Service Stock inventory, ensuring high-turn consumables are always available for field kits.
  • Oversee the logistics of heavy equipment transport, including coordinating freight for oversized motors or transformers.
  • Track Core returns and warranty claims with vendors for failed power components.
  • Support the Job Costing process by providing accurate material estimates for customer quotes.
  • Working weekends and after-hours may be required based on customer emergencies, critical plant shutdowns, or month-end inventory deadlines.
  • Participate in the Continuous Improvement Process Systems (CIPS).

Qualifications and Competencies: 

  • High school diploma, plus three years of experience as an industrial buyer or equivalent experience in related field
  • Three years’ experience in manufacturing/services operational processes preferred
  • Vendor and purchasing experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions with precise execution
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, follow standardized work procedures and apply strong analytical problem-solving dynamics in a continuous improvement environment
  • Ability to communicate at all levels and from various backgrounds
  • Strong customer focus with professional communication
  • Working weekends and after-hours may be required.
  • Ability to perform math functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division including understanding fractions and percentages
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
