Responsibilities & Expectations: 

 

South East Switchgear, an IPS Company, is seeking a motivated Field Service Technician I to perform standard test procedures on electrical products using primary and secondary injection testing, mechanical testing, megger testing and digital low resistance ohmmeter (DLRO) testing. This position requires a dedicated, detail-oriented team member with the ability to learn quickly and promote a safety-first work culture.

  • Responsible for the final step in the Quality Control Process to ensure that delivered products will perform as expected when installed in the field
  • Inspect low voltage, molded case breakers and insulated case breakers to ensure proper electrical and mechanical operation
  • Open and inspect internal parts of molded and insulated case breakers for mechanical or electrical degradation
  • Clean and recondition breakers using PEARL/NETA standards
  • Install and test accessories (24AC/DC -480VAC) such as motor operators, shunt trips, under voltage trips and auxiliary switches, as required in circuit breakers
  • Perform insulation and contact resistance tests on breakers using a Multimeter, Digital Low Resistance Ohmmeter (DLRO) and Megger meters
  • Secondary Injection Testing of Low Voltage Circuit Breakers
  • Ensure a professional environment utilizing customer facing skills 
  • Complete assigned work in compliance with operative policies and procedures 
  • Perform work in compliance with operating policies and procedures 
  • Work safely alone and as part of a team
  • Closely adhere to all safety standards and procedures
  • Effectively contribute to a strong team environment through assisting teammates in accomplishing mutual goals

 

Qualifications and Competencies: 

 

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
  • Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude
  • Previous testing experience preferred, but not required
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions with precise execution 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, follow standardized work procedures, and apply strong analytical problem-solving dynamics in a continuous improvement environment 
  • Ability to collaborate with team members 
  • Strong customer focus with professional communication 
  • Available and willing to work flexible hours, overtime and weekends as required, willingness to be on call  
  • Ability to perform math functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division including understanding fractions and percentages 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Basic computer skills 
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record with 3+ years of driving experience
  • Ability to travel locally and overnight   
  • Must properly maintain and wear acceptable Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as required for each task
  • Respirator fitted and trained

 

Physical Requirements: 

 

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 50 lbs. in weight 
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time 
  • Ability to perform manual labor for up to 12 or more hours per day 
  • Acute hearing and strong field of vision
  • Ability to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions
